Hey guys,

So im looking for some inspiration. I have alot of builds i love on here, but i dont have the brick yet to touch some of what i have seen. I have 2- 32x32 base's, 1- 48x48, 6 or so 16x16.

First question is what do you all combine for an 80x80 base?

Second, please post pics of your builds using the 32x32 and 48x48 plates. Also intrested in bases of 64x64. I hope this makes sence. Im not really intrested in vinguettes, but full structures. Im trying to grasp what can be done on said bases in mini figure scale.

Well, if you're filling up multiple baseplates, you could build quite a lot, like a big medieval village, or a full scale castle with inner keep, outer walls, gatehouse etc, or make a big battle scene. One place you might look for inspiration is past Colossal Castle Contests. Almost every year we have a "castle" category, asking people to essentially give us a castle without limits on size. Here are last year's entries. Or look at the "miscellaneous" category - this is the other category that typically has no size limits, so you can see other larger-scale creations. Here are last year's entries. The new Colossal Castle Contest is coming up soon, so that might be a good inspiration to make something big.

yes i have looked there an will continue to do so. my problem is i cant judge the size of the layout by looking at some of those pics! I would love to do a build for ccc, but dont have the parts for the type of build size i want, though i have been stockpileing.

So i guess i could say, please post pics an let me know what your base size is. I would like to get a sence of what is possiable on my avaliable plates, that looks feasiable in minifig scale.

Hey Curt, it seems your running into what happens to many of us builders. We see someone with more bricks and we want to copy what their doing. I recommend instead of trying to resemble someone else's larger-scaled work so much, start small and develop your own building style, and with time you'll be able to create bigger builds more effectively and better.

Here's a build that is made up of four 32x32 baseplates. This one is only one 32x32 baseplate. And last but not least, this build is made up of two 48x48 and six 32x32 baseplates.

I hope to see you building more often, as I'm always impressed by your work. Have a positive attitude and keep at it, like any hobby, it takes time to get better. Can't wait to see a larger-scaled build coming from you.

thats what I am looking for. I can see/ get a beter sence of scale. Yes im running into the same hurdles faced by many of us. My colection is not small, i would place it at the lower end of modest. I have 2 joust sets i am contemplateing breaking down, 1 helms deep, a couple morias, a couple warg sets, goblin king parts, council of elrond , several riddles for the ring sets, a couple urikai army sets, a gatehouse raid, plus a case of 1x4 bley and several ambush sets.

I just found a 6024 mostly complete for 5 bucks! I hope to build a couple things for ccc this year. I just need to build.

I am also running into the problem of i start building dont like something tear it down and start over. I hope to start on something tonight an am goin gto try to stay small. But we shall see.

Hey Lil_Curt. Yes, I have the same problem. I always see something that lets say Mark of Falworth, Luke Watkins (Derfel Cardarn), Fraslund, etc made, and go woah! I want to make that. But pieces is a problem. I learned to incorporate their techniques, into much smaller builds. Lol, my biggest build yet is normal for Mark! Here is my biggest build, it was built in 2 32x32 baseplates, and 2 16x32, or you could use 4 16x16. Not huge, but still fairly large for me. Then I built this on a 32x32 baseplate, which is the usual size that I use. You can go even smaller, even microscale, and still get good amounts of detail, like I did in this build.

Can't wait to see what you build for the CCC! I am looking forward to them, especially the big ones.

Most of my builds are on a 32x32 base, although some exceed that. My largest posted creation is Siege of Ardon, which is set on 6 32x32 baseplates (2 wide, 3 long). The Untimely Death of Stephen II was set on 4 32x32 baseplates (2 wide by 2 long). Following that, there is my only creation on a 48x48 baseplate, In Court of The Moon Goddess.

All that being said, I find myself enjoying building smaller creations more than larger ones. Not only are smaller creations easier to photograph and work with, but the smaller base forces me to make the most of it. It's also less piece intensive, but to each his/her own, I suppose. Best of luck.
