How do you all use your SW minifigs

Post by Lil_Curt »

Ok guys, I have heard everyone talking about using starwars torsos and using them for castle. I just picked up set 9489 from target for $9. And am looking at different ways of using it. My troopers will be used as easter eggs in my builds, but i figures i could use the torso arms since there sand green for women and possably the torsos for pirates.

Any way if you have used star wars figs in the past would you post some pics here showing the use's.

I use a lot of the body parts, actually, especially the arms and legs. I also use clothing accessories such as cloaks and even helmets (Lando's helmet would be great for some sort of outlaw). I'll post pictures if I find any :)

Looking at the figures in that set, I think you may struggle unless they have less modern/military back printing that you can use.

I think the stars wars torsos people are refering to are the jedi robe torsos, or other more generic robes/tunics etc.
I've used the Lando helmet for a barbarian, http://www.flickr.com/photos/andhe/7209 ... 9199044391 and it looks great. Would love to get the new printed version as well.

Alien heads may also be useful for orcs, goblins etc etc.
Less talking, more MOCing.

The torsos in the hh-87 stakeholder are pretty useful for castle. I know because I got it as a parts pack.

You kind of picked a difficult one for Castle use. Not all torsos are good for Castle. Mostly Jedi ones and the assorted 3rd party (non-Imperial, non-Rebel) characters are the best for Castle.

Sorry, yes, I did mean Starhopper, but I'm on a kindle fire and it auto corrected it to stakeholder. If a word completely doesn't make sense in one of my posts, you can blame my device's auto correct.

In the past, I've used Jedi robe torsos as torsos for peasants. Even in my latest creation here, I used an old Luke Skywalker torso for a nightgown/smock sort of thing.

Come to think of it, my sigfig actually uses a Bespin Guard torso from an old Slave I set.

Oh, I've used them before, but my favorite piece from SW minifigs is unquestionably the hood from the Sith. Even my sigfig has one. Absolutely love that piece, even if the minifigs can't really turn their heads much.

That's another thing we have to give the SW theme credit for. The Jedi/Sith hood was just that, a Jedi/Sith hood, far before it started leaking into other themes and sets.

Another thing: Imperial Guard torsos and hood could prove to be useful in Castle building. I haven't found a use for the burka-ish hood yet, but I'm sure I'll find something. :)

Hey,

Set 9489 seems pretty castle-unfriendly, aside from (I guess) sand green legs and arms and the tree (oh, I guess those are lances in the speeder bike). OTOH, there are a lot of great castle-useful torsos in the Star Wars line. Several years ago I went through and did a survey of castle-useful torsos in SW sets, and in the six years since then there have been at least as many more.

To give a few examples in answer to your first question, here are some older MOCs of mine:
Image
The tan guy is the OT Ben Kenobi torso and I think the brown guy is episode 2 Anakin.
Image
The guy in blue is wearing the child Boba Fett tunic.
Image
Guy in the chair (Denethor, btw) is the Lord Dooku torso, Gandalf has an old ANH Luke torso under his beard.
Image
Guy with the broom is the Qui-Gon Jinn torso, but with the arms swapped out as in your minifig disassembly thread (I had a bunch of similar torsos, so swapping out arm colors gave me greater variety in my townspeople).

Yes, but that piece was first introduced in the SW line in 1999. It wasn't until 2004 that it showed up in non-SW sets (again in a licensed theme, HP). BTW, we also have SW and HP to thank for the stubby legs, which showed up simultaneously for the first time as Ewoks and Gringotts Goblins in 2002 (and again later that year in a train set as a kid and also as Dobby). The 4-long bar also first showed up in SW sets as a lightsaber blade.
