Is the Duplo castle line set design better than KKII?

Yes, why can't they do this in System scale.

Duplo Castle better than KKII?

Post by wlister »

Hi All,

I was perusing Brickset today when I came across this little pic: http://www.brickmaster.de/4779-big.jpg
Be careful, its huge.

Working within the limitations of the Duplo theme, these sets look pretty decent. There are too many molded wall pieces, but the overall design and structure are far more like traditional castles than any of the KKII line. And if my eyes don't deceive me could those be "gasp" generic soldiers? The castle even had an archer, something completely lacking in KKII.

If TLC can manage to make a decent looking Duplo castle, why can't they do the same with system-sized sets. After seeing what can be done with a Duplo castle line, I have to say that the KII line seems almost insulting to older kids who are expected to need all that flash and pomp in place of decent set design.

So here is my question, do you think the set design is better for the Duplo line or the KKII line?

Keep in mind I am not asking about scale, or pre-molded pieces. Both themes have too many pre-molded pieces.
After a long absence, I have returned. I can't wait to start building again.

Ooooh I wonder if those weapons can fit in regular minifigs hands?

How fair is it, I ask, that Duple gets a more mature, better-designed, line than regular Lego? Cooler-looking too. If these were normal-sized bricks, I'd buy them in a second. Unfortunately, they aren't. :(

I think if this were in system scale. It would be better. How could it be like Megabloks when LEGO minifigs have hands that move and have better quality?

Megablocks has a castle system similar to this, in that everything is prebuilt due to the large molds. A castle that would normally be 600 bricks is instead 100 due to large molds.

Hello!

The DUPLO line is better than Knights' Kingdom Two.

If DUPLO wasn't so big and bulky I would consider buying those sets, but I don't have neither the space nor the money nor the the use for the parts. They do not fit in Minifig's hand, way too big!

Yes, this line is in many ways far superior to KK2. The Duplo line has better weapons, better helmets, generic soldiers, and an overall better design, not only in the sense of aesthetics but functionality, playability and probably potential for alternate models... Not to mention a much greater number of figures, two horses with bardings and chanfrons, a dragon and loads of extra weapons. It really is a shame that something like this couldn't have been built in System scale.

Oh wow... Good points:

1) The sets look very Playmobile-ish (i.e. high quality, large pieces, fun to play with).
2) The figures actually look like castle figs and are normal colors!
3) The horses and barding look really cool!
4) I don't see huge gaps in the castle walls.

Bad points:

1)The pre-molded walls with inlaid bricks remind me of Megabloks.

Anyhow, why can't TLC make something similar for System?!

Cause then Megablocks could sue them for copying their building style ;)

The set design is WAY better than KKII!
If the castle was built using Basing Bricks it would be a huge seller in System-scale.

Why should the little kids have the good sets?':x'

Hard to say - I guess I'll have to actually see the sets. The overall design looks better, but at the same time, I think I'd rather get Playmobile if the building is so minimal.

This is obviously much better than KK2. Those dragon shields are tight, better than DM and BK shields even, let alone KK2. The lion shield looks all right too, better than the KK2, KK1, and RK lion shields. We have an awesome and accurate looking catapult, which is much better than the KK2 one. As for violence, there are war flails and even a pot of boiling oil! And.... no jellybeans!
