Simpsons collectible minifigs published

Hey all,

LEGO has posted images of the Simpsons CMF series, due out in May. According to Ace at FBTB these will cost $4 (we knew the price increase was coming when that video game comes out) and there will be a special episode of the Simpsons on May 4 related to this (odd timing for the promo tie-in given that most of geekdom will be focused on SW on that day, and LEGO will be doing SW promo tie-ins at the same time).

They've done a great job of making accessories that reference the series. I really like the donut, Bobo and Blinky. I just really don't like the heads. And I really really don't like the $4 price tag. I think I'll skip this series.

I'll probably just buy a set of 16 online, and skip these at retail.

By the way, is the $4 price for all future collectible Minis, or just for this series because it is licensed?

Hey,
Last fall news came out about the LEGO Minifigures Online game, which will be coming out sometime this year. Starting in some future CMF wave, the figs will include codes to incorporate those figs into the game world (the comparison is that Skylanders game, where you buy the little figurines and that gives you access to playing that character in the game) (oh, there's a Disney variation on the idea as well). IIIRC, in one of the articles about that game there was a suggestion that the price of the figs would go up a bit, as a revenue stream to support the game (in contrast to the previous LEGO MMORPG). No official word on future fig pricing that I can point to, but I think it's inevitable they will go up a bit.

Isn't being the world's most profitable toy company enough? I remember buying CMF Series 2 for $2 each, and now we're looking at the price doubling in just a few years. Even worse, we're apparently going to be paying extra to support a game not all of us will be playing? If the game cannot support itself, it is an impractical idea that should not exist.

This ties in well with my Dear LEGO post about them reducing the minifigure counts in Castle sets. They're getting greedy.

LEGO only recently gained that title (as recently as last month, in which sales topped Mattel), and for a majority of LEGO's existence, the company struggled to make a profit. I don't think they're riding on the wave of fame just yet. Not to mention, the cost of ABS plastic is more likely than not on the rise (since it involves the use of petroleum), so it's easy to see why and how the prices would be reflected here.

Back on topic: I can't say I'm at all interested in any of these. Those heads... blech! I wish they had gone with just normal LEGO heads. They're already yellow! :?

I agree. I was hoping we would see more waves of the CMF series as with each we received some fantastic fantasy and historic figs. at $4 it becomes cost prohibitive imo. If it works, more power to them, but I wont be participating. I also do have to say that as much as I love how they are making custom figs, I am a bit disappointed that there is an entire line of Simpson figs if this delays the official line. I am hoping they are not done yet. I also agree about the castle line. 4 figs for the same price we paid for 5 is very disappointing. I know I am a newbie when it come to castle sets, but it seems that the trend is more panels and less figs.

I was only excited about this if we were going to get a donut...now the donut is a printed round tile? I guess a donut is a donut, but it isn't going to get me to buy this line of figs. And this may kill my enthusiasm for the collecti figs completely.

So..those of you happy..yay you can have my share too. More for you! Enjoy them!

I'm liking the short sleeves on some of the figures, but at $4 I won't be going out of my way to get them. ;)

Thanks to The Lego Movie and The Simpsons collectible minifigures, there's a full year between Series 11 and Series 12. Hopefully they used that time to come up with a lot of great new parts and ideas for Series 12. They'll need something to justify another price increase.

Agreed. If they can make the One Ring, they can make a proper scale molded donut. The Donut is the One Ring of the Simpsons!

These are too expensive to even think about buying, since I only really like a few of them for their torsos. I may get one or two opened ones online at some point, but I won't be getting the sealed packets.

I'll be skipping this series, because $4 is too much for something I'm not that interested in;I don't even like the Simpsons so I don't have enough interest in these to pay $4. I seriously hope that they don't stay $4 in the future, Lego is the world's largest toymaker, and They're doing just fine with $3 ones, I think they can afford to keep it that way.

Whilst it's nice to see some printed short legs and short sleeves, the giant moulded heads really put me off. That combined with the price makes it an easy call for me to pass on these.

These are great! $4 dollars is a bit to pricy for me though.
