Good things come to those who wait...

Post by medib »

I just noticed that 4+ Pirates sets and the City Airport
is now listed on the US currency at Shop@Home.

The city airport should start shipping by the beginning
of November.

The pirate sets should be available now (at least most of
them, though there are a few exceptions).

Just thought I'd post that....

I'm not sure what the correlation is between that announcement and the subject line...

Ugh... take a look at the map piece in Captain Redbeard's Pirate ship. It looks pretty awful...
Still, I may just pick this set up, as I could easily modify it into a somewhat decent minifig scale ship (and probably make some custom sails too).
But that map piece... UGH!

Except for the teeth, the whole skull on the island set is on piece! It's probably that way on the back of the ship too. And those new slope/rail pieces on the ship. How much more juniorized can these sets get? It's teaching kids to be lazy. :(

These sets are going to be so cool...I'm buying them all...eventually you'll all be crying when they come out with Jelly Bean pirates...because you never got the 4+ Pirates...that would look like The Dark Shark compared to Jelly Bean pirates...

Hey all,

My quick thoughts on these. There are some nice elements. E.g. those 2x2 clip-on flags are new, right?

http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=7072

I like the shape of the sail, but with that face it is too cartoony. Okay accessories (flag, scimitar, chest, wheel, coins). The larger boat in black is cool. Okay if found on discount.

http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=7075

Dreadful! Again the same problem with the sails. Yes, there are a few basic bricks, 1x4 fences, slopes, but precious few. A few nice accessories, but not significantly more than found in 7072 above.

http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=7070

Dreadful design. Could someone explain to me the physics of this thing? This set says one thing and one thing only--chrome scimitars will sell for about $3.00 on Bricklink. Less if these things hit clearance sales.

http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=7073

Okay, this is one is okay. Scimitars in two blays, green parrot, gray barrels, that new skull piece, generally useful pieces. The big oars would be great in a Viking ship.

http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=7074

Back to horrible. Yes, many of the individual elements are fine, it's just that they are overwhelmed by that horrid huge skull, big map, spring-loaded cannon, and sail. Plus there's no real concept here beyond using the big skull.

http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=7071

Pretty okay. Aside from the figs all here is useful. Hey, is the 4x4 palm tree base a new element? What was wrong with the 2x2 tree base?

No, I'm pretty sure that's the same 4x4 palm tree base used in the jungle Adventurers sets of 1999.

This set uses one:

as does this:

Jolly Jack Crow is stranded at sea on a raft.!
Jack Crow...Jack Sparrow...

hmm, it sound's like TLC's running out of name for all these characters.

I hope that little raft set, black boat and tresure island show up at my local KB toys or Target and go on sale...those sets have some useful pieces...

Hi Bruce,

Bricks4you on BL already had the chrome scimitar available at much less than $1.00 each.

I have to agree with your assesment of these sets, there are nice elements. I will likely buy the little black boat when it hits clearance. Hopefully some of the other elements will find their way to some PaB stores so we won't have to buy any of the other sets. Compared to other Jack Stone lines, it isnot that bad though. If my son was younger I would probably buy him some of this stuff, but he's not, so I won't.

Hey guys. I think you're bashing this line a bit to much. There are a lot of very uuseful peices in the sets as Bruce and some others mentioned but you others need to see the whole picture  .

If you consider the sets themselves as a whole yes they're terrible and disgusting, but, if you look at the sets piece by piece they become somewhat a better thing to looks at.

That skull pice on the front of Captain Redbeard's Ship is pretty cool and the green parrot could be a nice addition to people's parrot collection.

Yes the skuls on the flags are a bit cartoony but then these sets are aimed for younger kids.

and those cutlasses are pretty nice. Yes you can get them with other lines but hey the Pirate line isn't THAT bad.

PS. I just noticed thos Light gray barrels. It wouldn't hurt if I got some of those.
Space rocks.

I'm actually looking forward to these sets. They're really not that bad, compared to other Jack Stone-ish sets. Most of the pieces seem to be regular classic bricks, and not large prefab pieces. Also, there's alot of very useful pieces in there. I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for these on clearance, and I may even pick up one of the smaller ones at full price.
