Helmets

Post by Master Blobicus »

Whos Back? Me! (and the sad thing is I never left)

Gretings and Howdy Ho. On to the point. When building things (about castles duh) and i run out of castle related helmets I usely just find a regular LEGO helmtet and use those. But some Lego fanatics I've met just tremble at the Idea. Please tell me your opinion.

Thanks for giving a hoot,
MB
could you tell me before you go back in time, I was talking to a robe on the coat rack for 20 minuets before I releized you left!

When my goal was play, and not dis-play, I had no problem with equipping my lesser-most troops (yes, I know that's grammatically incorrect. So what? Those troops were too...).

However, since becoming more of a displayer than a player, and having acquired sufficient helms to meet my needs, I do not do this any more.

The main reason: I need them for Space and Town figs (which are about all I had standing of either theme for quite some time...)

its funny watching my son, and other youngsters, play -
Alex doesnt care about things like historical accuracy, nor does he care what helmet or weapon his guys use.
Recently in a minor border war between us, I was attacked by orcs, scorpion knights, a guy with a squid for a head, darth vader, a shark, and a dinosaur.....

basically whatever works for you and you have fun with, is cool Blobicus. Its all about fun.

Well though I don't use standard LEGO helmets for my knights. I don't have many helmets. I have one pointed visor, five kettle helms, one dragon helm, one really really beat up neck protector helm, and ....that's all. Yes very sad, but true.

But hey I love LEGO and I have fun none the less. And if you have fun with your LEGO while using standard lego helmets than use them! It's not what other people think of your colection that matters. It's wheteher you are happy with your collection. I personnlay don't know what I would od with all the men Wlister or Jpinoy have. But I wouldn't mind having what Lego Freak has. He has a nice sizeable collection that you can still keep track of ad actually play with most of them at one time(At least I don't think Freak has a HUGE collection. Well compared to me he does.).

So. If you have fun playing with your castle guys with space helmets on, go for it! That's what LEGO is for man!

I consider my actual Lego collection to be bordering on the smaller end of medium, but the number of minifigs and helms I have is pitifully small. I avoid space headgear, but some of those produced for "town" can work at times. Just having hair can work at times, and nearly every sort of headgear produced for the old pirates line works as well. As an alternative, you can always buy stuff of Bricklink, and if you really feel adventurous, you can try non-lego materials like sculpty and make your own. Red Bean has done some very nice custom helms that way.

Above all though, have fun! Lego is about enjoying yourself.

Well, you're certainly not in bad company. The original Yellow Castle used the same helmet as the Spacers:

with a visor attached. Later sets also incorporated the newer version of the helmet (again with a visor to make it look more castle-y).

I think that a plain helmet (old or new, whatever...) in the right color can look a little bit like a mail coif. I don't personally have any in use though.
As lemon_squeezer2 said, hair pieces and pirate headgear work well (particular the rag piece). Don't forget the farmer's cowl pieces.
The head itself, when printed appropriately, can often be used without any headgear.
As for space/scifi helmets, I've seen many people use the Rock Raiders helmet effectively.
Finally, you could use the stocking cap found in some of the town sets. This would be perfectly acceptable in a medieval MOC.
