A Letter to Myself

Post by rogue27 »

In 7th grade, my science teacher made the entire class write one letter to themselves that he would hand back to each student after they graduate from High School. (5 years later)

I found my letter while cleaning up my apartment. Here is an excerpt from it:

I also like LEGO very much. Please don't throw away the old LEGO books. I plan to get the King's Mountain Fortress. My allowance is $5 per week.

I am twelve right now and 13 on June 10.

I did not throw away the old LEGO books, and I am thankful for that. Unfortunately, I never got the King's Mountain Fortress. I suppose I must get one someday, for it would be cruel to deny the wishes of a 12-year old.

I hope that I never lose sight of the person I was when I wrote that letter. It was more than half of my lifetime ago, but I think that 12 year old in me awakens when I can find time to pick up some bricks.

That sounds like a good Idea to write a letter to yourself so that you can go back when you get your priorities mixed up you can see what really matters to you.

Sadly, I entered a ten-year dark age only two years after writing that letter. Maybe I would have never entered my dark age at all if I knew there were AFOLs in the world. Sites like this give hope to future generations of LEGO fans. :)

I plan to get a 6081 someday, but not in the near future.

I do think it was great that my teacher made us all write letters to ourselves. It's interesting to see how much you can change in five years. I wish there was more LEGO stuff in my letter. About 75% of it was about Nintendo games.

Ya, that is the golden age for lego. In age I mean your age. 12 is about the perfect age for building and playing Lego. Although you don't have nearly enough Lego at the time, what you do have is very well appreaciated.

I should write a letter to me sometime, be interesting to see it in a decade.

I just wrote a letter to myself for school last year too! I was in 7th grade as well, I wonder if that's widely practiced. I also write little notes to myself every so often, wrap 'em in tinfoil and bury them, so I can dig them up several monthes later. It's really interesting.

Firelight dancing off burnished blade
A Forestman sits
Wondering about the next day
But after three mugs of ale
Let it bring what it may.

Neat letter and good idea!

Bruce, that is so funny; on Ebey, those sets are going for $16-$40 right now, but they're trying to plam them off on Bricklink for no less than $80!

But those e-bay auction lots that were around $20 now still had several days until the end of the auction. You'll find that at the end of the auction the price will shoot up dramatically, and it will probably end around $80.
