Legendary 3033???

Post by Dragon Master »

I'm not the only one confused by this question in the poll thread. Why is this legendary. Its just a blue tub of basic bricks? Someone care to explain?

I think it's the fact that by the time most people realized it existed, it was almost sold out. IIRC, it also had a very short release time. So maybe legendary isn't quite the right term.....more like elusive. :?:

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

The reason why some people like it alot is because it had a great quantity of basic bricks for an outrageously cheap price. LEGO reps have said this wasnt a profit maker for them - but was used to get foot traffic in LEGO aisles.

Here is a quote of my comments from the previous thread:
Do you own a copy of the legendary 3033?
Legendary? Show me the grey!
Yes I do own it. I prefer the 4400 tub though.
Again I say - Show me the grey! :D

Ok, thanks. I'm not a fan of large tubs becuase there isn't enough of any brick to produce anything useful. I want an earthtone bucket.

200-light gray
200-dark gray
200-tan
200-black
150-green
50-blue

That would be 1,000 bricks worth purchase.

I'd rather have:

200-light gray
200-dark gray
200-black
100-tan
100-sand green
100-burnt orange
100-brown

burt orange...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

All those options sound great, but they are pretty unlikely. Where is the profit margin? Look what we pay for basic bricks on S@H, if they made a tub with all the great bricks we want, we wouldn't order from S@H with their bloated brick prices. I would love to see a tub with more 1 x 4, 1 x 6 and 1 x 8 bricks in any useful color, most of the new tubs are the home of less than great color selections and tons of 1 x 1's to up the piece count. 3033 had a better selection of brick and that is what made it a tub worth talking about. Sure it needed gray, but every set needs more gray.

The best for castle builder could be a large quantity of light gray and black 1x1, 1x2, 1x3, 1x4, 1x6 and 1x8. A lot of slope brick, and slope brick inverted too. These are the pieces we use the most, and it's not impossible to do.

A lot of great ideas here, and while in reality they may never come to pass, it is always nice to dream.
For years I have seen different types of buckets, and the one I wanted most has never come to pass. That of a basic castle bucket.
A few knights, castle doors and windows, and yes - earth tone bricks.
I think that would be so very nice.

Just my two crowns worth.

For all who are ignorant:

3033 had 1200 pieces for $20 - do the math, that is LESS than .02USD per piece!

Someone may correct me if I am wrong, but that is by far the cheapest set ever produced - and if you had the chance to buy it, you should buy it ever chance you have. Yeah, its not grey - but having tons of red, yellow, blue, white, black, and green has its uses too.

legendary b/c of the price. and yes, i stand by that word.

Not only was it extremely cheap per piece as has been pointed out, but it had a decent assortment of bricks. It had 24 2x4 bricks in 4 colors, and 12 of the other two colors. It had more of the larger size bricks then other buckets/tubs generally have.

Wow ! 3033 was a so fantastic source. Shame I was on my dark age in these times.

About the prices, actually Lego offer a relatively cheap set 4028.
