Which piece you use do you hate the most?

Post by kaloo »

Well It seems its time again for me to post one of those stupid questions, so here it goes:

What piece do you hate the most that you actually use?
For most it'll be the burp or the lurp, but the 1x5x6 wall, standard castle wall piece, Ninja wall piece, and the 64x48 raised baseplate are all coming to mind also.
Post your choice in your reply.
Mine'll be the BURP, even though I'm steadily combating my younger addiction to "BURP buildings".

So BURP, over LURP because I have more BURPs. If that reasoning makes little sense, just forget it and reply.

I would have to say the castle wall piece.

I used to love them, and amassed well over a hundred of them. But then I realized how they were limiting what I built. I also did some math and figured that it was not actually much more expensive to use bricks instead of wall pieces.

I never felt so free as when I loosed myself from the bonds of wall pieces! :D

Headgears.... considering the kind of armies I make, I have to make weird looking substitutions for certain head gear that historic soldiers used, but that Lego never bothered to make.

It's impossible to make something interesting
with this. I don't use it anyway. :?

David G., actually I like that peice pretty much. I'd say my least favorite Castle peice is the wall peice. But I think there's a use for every Castle peice, in some building or another.

I like the wall pieces in contrast of you! Funny, it's exactly th contrary :)

My problem with this piece
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=6066
is that there is a lot of way to make to tower, and this one is so much unflexible. If you use one in your MOC, you have to put only this piece for top of tower.

Since we're all in to contrariness at the moment  here's an example of using your problem piece somewhere other than at the top of a tower:

The left side shows this piece as a top battlement, but the right side uses it at the middle level. It's not perfect, but it does work.

You can use it as a "bow-balcony" . Look at these examples from Ed Boxer's castle (look in the center of the pic, just to the left of the castle corner): http://www.geocities.com/WestHollywood/ ... cast07.jpg and: http://www.geocities.com/WestHollywood/ ... cast08.jpg. You are right, however about it being pretty inflexible. I just think it looks better than using the 45-degree, horizontally slanted with 1x2s on top.

Aside from the raised baseplate from King Leo's Castle, there are no castle pieces I hate. I can find use for all of them. Would I prefer brick? Sure I would, but I will live with all the castle walls pieces I have.

Other parts mentioned like the ninja wall panel are far less then useless, in fact if anyone has ninja panels they don't want, they could give them to me.

Burps aren't great, but mixed with brick, they can make pretty decent mountains and rock faces, and making the same out of straight brick while preferable is rather difficult brick-wise for most of us.The turrets are limiting, but they have their uses as mentioned.

The only really bad raised baseplate is the King Leo's baseplate. 6090 was limiting as well, but it could be expanded upon pretty nicely. The baseplate from 6081 and others was not bad to use for small keeps and towers. The King Leo's baseplate is just so pocketed. It takes a lot of work to start building with it. So it is the only piece I don't like. That and baby blue armor.

Castle wall pieces are limiting, but very easy to get. I purchased mine quite a few years ago at considerably less than they cost now. Brick may be slightly and I mean slightly cheaper now , but only in about 3 stores that have enough 1 x 6 brick to be worth buying from. 1 x 4s are a better price from S@H at least until all the old grays are gone. Unfortunately availability really limits how much brick we can buy to substitute for castle wall pieces. If I get the chance to clear a PAB store before they run out of old grays I will.

Will
After a long absence, I have returned. I can't wait to start building again.

Yes there is use for this 6066 piece. People have a lot of imagination.

But i still don't like this piece. I prefer to make a build in brick balcony or tower top. :?

I realy don't like the yellow scimitar. It doesn't fit very well for anything, unless you want a golden scimitar.

Hmm...ya, the yellow Scimitar(of which I have 6) is rather annoying. Yellow doesn't cut it as gold for me. It just looked...fleshy. I guess I've been playing with yellow figs too much.

But I really dislike alot of the HP pieces. Especially the big green 4 sided roof piece. Blah...

Burps I find quite useful, though not by themselves. Castle wall pieces are useful, but only in the right spots. And I wish I had some of the Ninja Wall pieces, I love those things, at least from what I've seen of them.
