More opinions needed - possible future Legends!

Post by Gumby »

The following is a message Jake posted at LUGNET:

If you haven't noticed it on the LEGO MyOpinions site already, we're currently
running a session to get some feedback on the most desired sets for possible
future LEGO Legends.

Head over to MyOpinions or go straight to the survey here:

Have fun!

Oh man! I almost put LoTR above classic castle.

I voted Wild West, Pirate, and, of course, CASTLE!

I added something to the effect of

"New Sets in the late 1980's Castle set style, using late 1980's Castle factions like Black Falcons, Crusaders and Black Monarchs"

to the suggested new Castle sets

Thanks for posting this. I voted for Castle and Pirates. Under castle, I voted for Black Knights, LoTR, and I added a new one: 6086-Black Knight's Castle. Under Pirates, I voted Vikings.

Thanks for the link!

I added entries under Castle, Pirates, and Wild West for minifig packs.

I also added an Ancients theme and a Young Architects theme (famous buildings with detail) to the never-before-offered section.

I added Ancient Greece or Roman, and Crusader-era knights circa 1200 AD, with the tag line of more historically accurate and challenging models.

If I recall from the first survey they ran, they'll read through the suggestions, and simplify or condense the ones they like and add them to the list for voting (I know, because they used one of mine and it did extremely well in the voting).

Yes! Another LEGO legend survey!

Post by Sir Terrance »

I voted castle, space (sorry, but I do like space) and town. I voted Black Knights, LOTR, and that fantasy theme one with elves, dwarves and all. I wanted to know, can you do this survey more than once? Will it work? It might be an idea in order to get what we really want.

I like the idea that LEGO is asking us for input but I am skeptical of the usefulness of this survey for Legends. Here is a copy of my lugnet post:
Hi Jake,

I am a bit concerned at how useful this survey will be for legends. It seems to
be more focused on future theme ideas than individual sets for legends.

For Castle Legends -

Each Week at Classic-Castle.com we have weekly set reviews. I would encourage
these to be reviewed by LEGO employees because a select few sets are popular
across the board with Castle fans.

These include:

6062 Battering Ram - kids could complete their castle wall with the Black
Falcons Fortress and Guarded Inn
6060 Knight's Challenge - A colorful and fun set that kids would love.
6040 Blacksmith Shop and 6041 Armor Shop - these shops would fit in well with
the existing legends
6080 King's Castle
6086 Black Knight's Castle
3739 Blacksmith Shop - we want more ;)

I think that castle fans would like to see a survey with 5-10 old sets and then
choose one of those to be a legend.

Do you agree with me that castle fans should get a more specific legend choice? Please let me know or repond on the lugnet thread. Thanks!

I think people need to make sure that 1) Jake sees the message. Since there is no guarentee he will wander by here in a timely fashion, I think it best to respond directly on the Lugnet thread, which he is clearly monitoring. 2) Respond to the survey. Writing here or Lugnet is one thing, but the likely response for lots of people at Lego beyond Jake to see is the actual survey. I've been on the other side of this kind of thing with computer software - it's one thing to have someone interpreting for you and trying to represent the Faithful's views, and another for the Powers That Be to get a more direct taste.

Here's an example: while designing Bard's Tale III, I was pressing for an automapping feature (back in the day that these were not part of role-playing games). No matter how logical or passionate I was about it, it got vetoed as unnessary. So I ran a survey on-line on Compu$erve (Internet? Ha!) which was overwhelming in favor of automapping. I dumped the massed printouts on the presidents desk without expanation.

One week later automapping was in the game.

So, it is important that you actually go take the survey, and make thoughtful suggestions and not just write here or Lugnet. Be positive.

Hi TwoTonic,

Of course I did all three things  I do think that everyone should take the survey. We need to let LEGO know what we want - for themes, legends, and accessory packs - posting on Lugnet and taking the survey would be best.

I still question the survey's effectiveness. From my opinion, it does not seem well thought out and will not gather useful information on legends. It does seem fine for theme ideas.. How seriously are we going to take castle choices of "Lord of the Rings", "King Leo's Castle", etc?

There is a big difference in favorite theme verses favorite sets. Take Black Knight's as an example. 6086 Black Knights Castle is legendary while 1547 Black Knight's Boat is probably is not. My main point is that the survey is a good idea but could be improved greatly.

Maybe the "Lord of the Rings" on their is another piece to the puzzle about LEGO LOTR sets, remember how someone said that LEGO wouldn't allow LOTR LEGO Creations on their site, then intelliblocks loses their license and now there are tons of LEGO Lord of the Rings Creations on LEGO.com... I think I smell a theme in time for the Hobbit Movie.... ;) Or the SEE (super extended edition) :P

I selected:

Castle
Adventurers
All-New Theme

"How about new setting for Castle? We've been to Japan with Ninja, so how about the Mid-East (Arabia/Egypt), or Persia? The Sultan or Shah & his men are the good guys of course, bad guys are desert marauders."

I also suggested Johnny Thunder and co. go to Europe for the Sword of Destiny (kk2 sword in gold), as well as stuff like golden armor and etc.

For an all-new theme, I suggested Historic Lego and how it would add more educational value to the toy.

Woohoo. "Roman Empire" was officially added to the list along with some more historically accurate and village oriented options.
