Custom Torso printouts on minifigs

Post by Dan_BL »

Well, I still haven't made a trip over to Bureau en Gros, nor have I tried the idea of putting tape on top of my torsos stickers. Its quality as far as look is concerned that I'm aiming at, not a smooth touch.

Anyhow, here is what I've managed to come up with. They're actually pretty cool IMO:

R.B.: The sword that this minifig is holding, like many others doesn't hold well in the minifigs' hands. I could easily pull it out without moving the the minifig by touch. Do you think if I added a layer of tape around the handle it might help?

The lass at the left was made with other stickers I found on BS. Here is a shot of the back of her torso:

I'm quite impressed with this minifig actually. The way my printer printed the brown makes her look common, which is the way I would think she should look.

I'm working on the edges! I don't seem to be able to leave even the slightest elevation or white on the edges without giving the minifig an obvious look of having been custom made (kind of tacky I would say) which is what I don't want!

Thats it folks! My endeavours up to date!

Dan, looks pretty cool IMO as well! Did you use glossy sticker paper? The white around the edges is what annoys me also, which is why I have not "castleized" (since you like that word) all my HP figs that I recently acquired.

I don't think there is anything you can do about the elevation, but as far as the white around the edges have you considered an art pen with a brush tip? I used a micron pen, I got it at a local art store. They come in a variety of colors, and while they dont match exactly to the color of lego, a different shade of red say, on a red torso is better than white.
With the whole new gray thing lego doesn't even match to the color of lego anymore, so what the hey right?

I am planning to make some custom torsos myself and was nice to see someone else results! I am going to use packing tape on the sticker, then cut it out and attach to the fig. The only thing is that it may cause it to go too shiny. But really nice results anyway.

The packing tape on top of stickers works fairly well in my opinion. The gloss can bug some.

My main issue with tape on paper & even thicker photo paper is, if you wanted to put on some armor or tighter fitting headgear.
Usally you end up, messing up your sticker.

I am currenty working on one method right now, that I think may work fairly well. Haven't seen it used yet.

Will keep you posted.
