Well I think we all know the colors Chrome, Metallic, Pearl, Speckle.
As I has said before personly I hate these colors and I think its one of the worst things lego has made, but hey thats my opinion.

My question is. does anybody know if you can remove the color coating? and has Anybody tried it before?

Maybe even has pictures of the result

Without getting into the issue of liking the metallic colours, I think we need to address the fact that Chrome, Metallic, Pearl, and Speckled pieces are not all created the same.

So... if I understand it, here's how they work:

Chrome, to begin with, *is* a coating--certainly too much play caused my original Royal Knight and Fright Knight greatswords to peel in chunks and go white, back in the "olde days."

Metallic, I think, is a category that can either cover simple paint (such as the Crownie helmets), and possibly even some pieces that are simply moulded in that colour. Speckled pieces, such as elite Shadow Knight helms and Viking axeheads, are also paint and wear off with time--presumably, one could even brasso them clean.

Pearl pieces, as I understand it, are like some "metallic" pieces insofar as they are not an exteriorly-coated piece. That is, you can't scrape off the shininess anymore than you could scrape the yellow off a classic smiley head or the old grey off a 1990s 2x1.

Since this is about altering pieces, I'm moving this to Customs.
