Custom Decals

Post by b00sted »

EDIT: Here are the two threads of users I have based my work off of. Basically I used their decals as vector trace templates for bases to mix mine from :)
ED-209 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.p ... opic=53081
frogstudio http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.p ... opic=61489

Well after lurking for a while I thought I would try my hand at some decals, mind you I have no clue how to even apply these to a minifig at all!
(if any of you want to offer to do so for me let me know :P) but I thought I would share.

Please do not reuse any of my decals for your own profit, if you want to use any of my images for your own uses feel free!

If you want to use my images for sale please contact me first so I may discuss it with you. ^_^

any feedback would be greatly welcomed and if you need any higher rez images I made these in uber detail so I can share if need be if you let me know the reason :)

The decals for the Nobles/Kings are particular interesting. My advice on applying them is to use clear packing tape and let the tape reach the sides of the torso. It protects the ink on the design and is cheaper than trying to use sticker paper. At least try this method first before going straight to sticker paper.

These are really nice! What design software do you use? I could see them being useful for the guys and gals doing the Classic Castle storyline build stuff. A Black falcon King is a great idea. Though I wonder if the emblems might be a bit small at minifig scale? Still, great stuff. Less lurking, more posting!

I been using photoshop, most of the stuff you see is based off ideas of others I seen but wanted tweaked to what I wanted. I have never actually made a custom yet but really like the idea of it just dont have any clue how to pull it off while still making it look good. Once I get all of these done as I want to make a footman/archer etc I will upload a PSD for you all so can play with the layers and mix and match etc :)

these are really great. I been making my own decals and I use photoshop too. The problem was what I should use to print them on, Then I found some gloss stickers sheats at work that looked like they could be used for decal printing. Protecting the decals and the ink with clear tape or similar is a a very good idea and should be used.

after lots of swearing I accidentally deleted my psd with everything in it!! >_< and 5 recovery software's later still gone.. so I need to recreate that all from scratch to make myself happy so I can edit whatever I want when I want to my liking.. so to take a break from that I found a pdf of a decal I liked over on eurobrick (not sure if it is ok to link here so I wont) by frogstudio but wanted to tweak it more to my needs and add all the classic sets to it so since I lost what I was working on this would give me a good break from that! here is what I got so far.. Basically the 3 Soldier options. right now I only have the "New" Black Falcons done but should have the rest done tonight if all goes well (and I dont delete the psd again lol)

let me know!

I'd suggest using an off brown color for the belts on the wolf pack. Also, too many belts takes away from the insignia. I am a fan of the new Black Falcon insignia over the old one.

OK, since I am super super tired (and kinda lazy) atm I dont feel like resizing and uploading 44 images. so for all you that are quick to the draw here is my PSD file!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22063477/LEGO/M ... oldier.psd It contains folders for Black Monarchs, Black Knights, Dragon Masters, Royal Knights, Three ver of Crusaders, Forestmen, Two ver of Black Falcons and Wolfpack all separated by folders and each contain 4 diff belt types the images are 1500x1251 also so has a nice size to edit and mess with!

So enjoy if you are quick enough to grab before I grab it down in the morning to continue to edit more on it :P

Yea I don't like that either but maybe oldbrown like boywarrior said.
I don't know what you are thinking but to my opinion Wolf knights should look more like peasantish than noble royal knightish :D
I have making some opposing Rebels in LCC whom are messing around in the Loreos faction, and they have the Wolfpack shield and emblem.
Here is a image of their leader, and some other faction lords.

ok rebuilt the knight template from the ground up. made a few changes to it as well namely the belt as when i was doing traces from ED-209's decals and frogstudios i messed up on the belt and never really noticed. I think the end result turned out better this time around. thoughts. and must thank them again for their work or I would not have mine :P

which one should I go with the one with?

and for reference here is the old
