TTK's thinking too much into it.

Adm_Matthew is close, but no cigar for him.

The secret?

There is no secret.

It's Foil Mailing Labels.

Specifically, Avery Brand Assorted Foil Mailing Labels, which come in three colors per package: Chrome Silver, Chrome Red and Chrome Green.

This product is available at any fine office supply retailer (and maybe even Wal-Mart).

They're already cut out of the paper, so you'll have to line up the images accordingly. You can fit three shields per label, and each sheet comes with 30 labels. Torsos and other shields will fit, but for the larger shields you'll have to turn them sideways to make them fit.

They're already sticky, so once you cut them out, it's just peel and stick and voila! Instant chrome design.

You can even print color on them.

But be warned: It is imperfect technology. The ink tends to be pulled away into small puddles, making the image on the chrome appear grainy. Also, using this stuff turns your fig into a model, not a toy. Body oil and even mild friction will cause some ink to wear away.

Perhaps a different sort of printer ink will fix this problem.

But if you're willing to jump through hoops, it's still pretty cool!

Perhaps first you could apply a blank foil sticker, and then put a clear sticker with the design printed on over the foil? Or would the design be just as fragile as if it were directly on the foil? I've never used the clear stickers, so I wouldn't know.

You could cover it in tape. That would hold it nicely.

Good point. When I make stickers I usually use photopaper and cover it with tape anyways
