KK2 Sword Modifications
KK2 Sword Modifications
Don't know if it has been done yet, but here a few modifications I have made to the new KK2 swords.
My first modification.

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Ramus ... detail.jpg
Same as above w/o the piece below the handle.

This one has some resemblanceto a gladius. Though it is the same length as the standard castle sword.

Folder when modified.

I personally don't mind the new sword design, but I was curious as to what they would look like modified.
Let me know what you think & which one you like best.

I like the pommel being cut off and the sword shortened. I'm not so sure I like the guards being removed. I've thought about cutting them off and reversing them, but I don't know how stable that will be once re-attached. I think there are some possiblities as a gladius (as you mention) with even more trimming and shaping of the blade.

Having seen this, I might decide to shorten a couple of my KK2 blades. I'm kind of fond of the crossguard though, so those will stay. I'm undecided on the pommel... I kind of like that on there too.
How did you get the cuts to look so clean? The piece looks unmodified (clearly it is modified, but it looks like it was molded that way).

If we keep this way modifing KKII will be decent.

You know you're a good person when you see megablocks and have to do things you would rather not.

The red is a very useless one. With your modifications it takes on the appearance of a cricket bat
Now in the bronze or pearl silver, these would look great. I like the first on with the pommel still on (Rudius?). I think the main difference in the finished cut is the fact that this plastic is very soft. It looks as though you used a very fine sandpaper to take the edge off the cut parts. You have presented a very viable alternative for these otherwise useless swords (IMHO)

Fwoosh! I hate the junky plastic! It won't hold firm to take a cut, it shreds rather than files off. I can't say enough evil things about it. I can get a pretty good gladius shape, but getting a clean surface isn't easy. Blarg.

The major cuts were made w/ the x-acto knife & the major shaping was done with 200 to 600 grit sand paper. If you look close you can still see some marks, but I plan on solving this w/ a decent paint job. Hopefully it will work w/ the plastic being so plyable. How did you get the cuts to look so clean? I agree with the red being the most useless color for the sword. (Save a bad guy sword or something) Hence the first modifications using this color & not the others. Also, I have more red than any other. The red is a very useless one. With your modifications it takes on the appearance of a cricket bat
I would have to agree that the plastic doesn't seem to be "LEGO quality. Is it regular ABS plastic?Fwoosh! I hate the junky plastic! It won't hold firm to take a cut, it shreds rather than files off.
Could you post a pic of what you have to date?
I may try making a short one w/ the guards & pommel just for fun.
My one complaint with the KK2 swords is that the hilt / hand grip is not large enough (diameter) to be securly held in anything other than a minifig hand. I was originally thinking that it would look great on a pole as a version of Naginata.

I like the first pic, looks similar to a Chinese cavalry sword I once saw a pic of.
Though Im NOT going to cut my KK2 swords and will continue to use them as the straight blade swords for my ancient Corean, Chinese, and Siamese factions. One of the 4 Chinese subfactions specializes in swordsmanship. And in keeping with historical accounts, the ancient Corean cavalry soldiers are armed with 2 swords, right & left.
So if you have tons of KK2s swords and modding them is too much of a hassle, you can raise money to buy regular swords by selling the KK2 ones to me.

Well, it is a diferent plastic(as I said before, ABS is turning expensive)
I don't know(it's a good thing)it isn't that other face color(have you ever think of it?).

Can't say I like it without the guards, at least not the color you used. As for shortening thats a brilliant idea and I DEFINATELY agree to cutting off that big pommel as it seems to get in the way a bit.
If I had more swords I might screw with em, but im fairly limited to around 10? various colors
