<EDIT> Mythic Viking Helmet

Post by MaxiVisVires »

Hey guys, this is the first time I posted one of my customs , let me know what you think. Just a standard viking skull helm, I tried it without the horns, and it looked more like a football helmet. Thanks for any help in advance. :)

Very nice job there. While Vikings didn't have horns on their helmets, the look is very aesthetically pleasing.

How did you make them though? did you use scupty or did you cut a Lego piece down? It has a nice finished look to it.

All in all, this is very, very good for a first try. I sure couldn't do something like that :) Keep it up!

Nicely done - are the helmets modified Lego or custom sculpted?

You might want to refer to the helmets as "Mythic Viking" rather than Viking, or - as you are discovering - the outraged historians will pummel you for the inaccuracy of your claim.

Well....

Everyone here (including me!) knows that Vikings probably didn't have horned helms...

So I won't say anything about that. Popular imagination has given them horns, and they look cool.

The same goes for these Lego guys.

What are these modified from?

Are these helmets made from "Aviator Caps" painted silver?

Like I said, I tried them without horns... and they came out looking like football helmets. The helmets are LEGO aviator caps. I took a blade and just basically cut down on the back part. I also took off the side hinges. A little sanding down with some sand paper, and it came off pretty clean. I primed it black and dry brushed it silver. The horns are standard LEGO horns trimmed up some. Glad you guys like it. :D

Those helmets look good, even if people say they're not accurate.
I like the way they turned out, you did a good job.

You could always put them on a fat lady singing opera...

Very cool. Although the horns are not historically correct the are fantasy correct and LEGO is all about fantasy so great job!

Nice overall effect. My kids knew right away they were supposed (though) be Viking. And ther gutt, ya? Of course we the enlightened here at CCC know that Vikings didn't have horns coming out of their helmets! Fool! They grew out of their heads naturally! Sheesh

Wait a minute, are you saying that Hagar the Horrible is not historically accurate? Next you're going to tell me that I should stop trying to feed lasagna to my cat.

These look awesome. I agree that without the horns they'd look like old fashioned football helmets. You should post a couple of pics of the hornless version to lugnet.sports.
