The Short Answer: Make a design, print it out, glue it on.

The Long Answer:

1) Acquire a drawing program, be it Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw or even simply that thing in Windows Accessories called "Paint". It depends on what you have access to (school, work) or can afford.

2) Learn to draw, or at least become familiar with how your selected program works. A shortcut would be to acquire a template (pre-sized pattern appropriate to your goal, e.g. torso template, shield template, etc.). There are a number of templates and completed designs that Sava has made available through articles here on C-C, and some digging around through the topics here will reveal many more. All the designs that I post on Brickshelf are there so others can use them also, as are most.

3) Have a printer, preferably one that prints out in color. There are lots of different paper types with varying results. Normal paper had poor contrast and poor color saturation, but it's cheap. Some reinforce it with sturdy tape. Sticker paper has glue of some kind on the back and prints out in a variety of quality. Film and decal (water slide) are transparent for the most part, which requires a different approach than opaque paper types. Glossy photo paper produces sharp, high contrast print-outs, but is more expensive. I use the latter, and glue them on with good old Elmer's Washable Glue Stick.

4) Cut 'em out and glue 'em on. I advise a high-quality small scissors and not some cheap thing.

Go to the 'How To' section of CC-click Creation- then Minifig Torso Design stickers by Anthony Sava. Anthony explains everthing there. Hope that helps.

I haven't seen very many custom torsos this good in a while. I very much like the first one for its simplicity, and the armor. The second one looks rather Egyptian-king-like with the gem collar. I don't really like the third one, though like you said it probably looks better printed out.

Nice work!
