How do you stiffen your custom capes and cloaks?

Post by forester3291 »

Well the title says it all. How do you coat/ stiffen your custom capes and cloaks?

I used glue and it worked vey nicely. The cloth was limp but it now is nice and stiff. But not too stiff. It's...perfect.

Well just post comments here...

For the capes I put it on a minifig then I put a LEGO UFO over it and that stiffens it.
If you want it ragged just crumpel it up. Or just go to a fabric store and get somthing stiff.

Are you refering to official LEGO capes and cloaks? I was talking about custom ones  .

And unfortunanly I don't ahve the money right now to go off buying fabric from stores. I don't have money to buy LEGO right now as it is. Oh well I will just have to wait till christmas to get some LEGO.

spray starch (or liquid starch) works well too. I made a bunch of red, black, green, and white sails for my ships quite awhile back, and my mother suggested the starch.
(she is into all that craft stuff) :D
It worked out quite well, and the sails felt exactly like the lego fabric. All you would need to do is go to a fabric store and ask them if they have any scraps, or find out if you have an old t-shirt you can hack up.

I've never experiemented with custom capes. Do you use paper... from reading I'm guessing you use cloth.

Do these capes have a design or are they a flat color?

Can anyone post pictures of custom capes they've made!?!

Hurry!

(just kidding, you don't have to hurry) Sorry about so many questions.. don't wanna sound too needy.

I do. I find that they work for a while.(depends on if you play with them much, I don't really so this is in my experiance) but sometimes you have to print one up.

Here is a Falcon cape Image

Both were made by me. Here is a article on Cloak and cape making by Ramus. If you scroll allllll the way down to the very bottom you'll see a custom Forestman cloak by Armothe

And now I'll flee from this place again.
This is just the sort of nonsense up with which I will not put.

Commited customizing... haha

That looks pretty cool, Jojo

Paper just seems too weak, I would still want to play with them.

When I do a torso sticker, i put tape. How well do you guys think putting a tape over it would work/ how good do you think that would look.

It may look funny if its shiney.

Oh, I played with my customized paperfigs. In fact I played exessively with 'em as I prefered my own customized figs way over the standard LEGO figs then. And they lasted until today (OK, colours faded out a little.) I just played carefully. I wasn't a 5-year-old, you know...

All of my custom capes are paper. And they have been played with. Pretty extensively. They have to be replaced occasionally (about yearly), but much less now that I play less and have less. :?
