Is this thing on?

Post by Elbee »

Hi, uh... *mic feedback* ... uh, I'm new here. I loved playing with LEGO when I was younger, especially Castle (arriving in time to catch the tail end of the Crusaders/Black Knights) and Pirates (red-suited Imperial Guards era). Sadly, my divided loyalties mean that as I emerge from what I believe is what you lot refer to as a "Dark Age" (no LEGO/LEGO Castle period) the only large Castle set I've ever owned was 6081 King's Mountain Fortress (and I loved it, though lusted after 6086 in vain). Happily, the existence of Bricklink (and occasionally eBay) means I can slowly build up my parts collection.

I stumbled onto castle MOCs (still don't know what that stands for) when doing an image search for my 6081. That led me to a MOC of that set by a fellow named Dan. I spent hours poring over the some of the incredible creations on display, before a mention of Classic-Castle.com (in reference to a set made for one of the prior CCC events) directed me here, where I have lurked for a week or two admiring the many CCCV entries.

I have been inspired! One of my favourite things to do with my LEGO had always been to rebuild it into little castles of my own making, and now seeing these MOCs - I had to begin again. Though starting small (in terms of both pieces and techniques) I plan to work my way up to some of the greater creations - in size at least if not in beauty. ;) Fortunately I did keep what pieces I had through the Dark Age.

Thank you all for bringing me back to the light!

Welcome to the site. It looks like you have already started to benefit from the wealth that this site can provide.

MOC stands for My Own Creation, which is a fancy way of saying you built it with your LEGOs. AFOL stands for Adult Fan Of LEGO.

Bricklink will be very helpful in your quest to build, it has been invaluable to me over the years, especially if you're looking to make up for the LEGO sets you missed during your Dark Ages. Its good idea to start small and then work your way to bigger and bigger MOCs.

Enjoy your stay here!

Thank you for the warm welcome. I suppose my first questions have to do with all the acronyms thrown around.

MOC and AFOL have been answered, and I've seen BURP and LURP identified as Big and Large Ugly/Useful Rock Piece. SNOT is Studs Not On Top.

I assume GURP is Giant Ugly/Useful Rock Piece, though I've only ever seen two sizes of rock myself...

I have also seen *ahem* POOP and CRAPP being used, and must profess curiousity as to what they are acronyms for...

Welcome to CC, I'm sure you'll feel right at home among all these Lego castle freaks :D
Between plotting to kill you all and chasing balls of yarn, I also build MOCs
