Putting the Lego away for a couple years

Post by eNiGMa »

Hey all. Yeah, old face. :P I find it odd, myself, that I would disappear then come back only to say I'm leaving. But considering the length of time that I will be gone, and what this community has meant to me, I wouldn't feel right not letting you all know what's going on before I completely vanish and no one can get ahold of me.

Starting this Wednesday, I will be serving for two years as a missionary for the LDS (Mormon) Church in the Texas San Antonio Mission, Spanish-speaking. My area will cover San Antonio and Austin, and a number of towns surrounding them all the way west to the border with Mexico.

During that time, there will be no Lego for me. It's a difficult sacrifice, but one that I personally feel is worth it. Nevertheless, I do look forward to my return so I can build some more and join you all again. This community has been like a family to me, and I will miss you. I've made many great friends here, and though I don't know the newer members like I should, I've seen good things from them, as well.

I would love to stay in touch, though. If anyone wants to write, I can email my mission addresses to you. I will also be sending out an email hopefully every week or so, so everyone knows how I'm doing. For anyone wishing to hear from me, you can message me at elder.sly.pig@gmail.com, and my brother will make sure you get put in my contacts. There is also a blog where my adventures will be posted, at www.elder-slypig.blogspot.com.

You've all come to mean so much to me. I've loved the time I've spent in the FOL community, and I thank you all for making this hobby the fun that it is for me. I look forward to joining you once more in the Brick, and hope to hear from many in the days and months to come.

Until then, my friends.

I was waiting for this announcement! That is so exciting! I'm glad that your not only serving, but you told us! I hope that you see the change in yourself in your two year mission. If you run into Tony, send him our love... (haha), and be sure to serve as you know to serve.

This is really exciting! Are you able to bring your violin? I know some missions allow it... Anyway, congrats and whatnot, and have a life changing mission.

Godspeed, Elder

Ever since you posted a welcome in my own little "hello-thread" here when I joined years ago, you've been part of my little CC-family. Two years is quite a long time but we shall survive the separation I hope ;) Anyway, I hope you'll have a great time and I wish you all the best, Nathan!

Take care,

Jonas

Thanks for the kind wishes! I certainly look forward to being in your company again in two years. :)
Are you able to bring your violin?
Sadly, no. That's one thing I'll definitely miss a lot. But it'll be there when I get back. :)

Farewell, Nathan! (I mean that in the literal sense)

Best wishes to you and we will be here when you get back. You may not have been around much lately, but you are a CC mainstay.

Take care,
Josh

Keep your canteen full, your map handy, a warm jacket even if it's warm in the daytime, a knife, a snakebite kit, a lighter, a nice boonie-hat and a charged radio always close at hand when traveling light & adventuring. Best wishes to you as you and yours will be in our prayers. We'll keep the light on for you.

Well, since you brought it up...

As a former member of the LDS church I can't think of anything more offensive than someone going door to door with the absurd notion that other people want or need help with their religious choices.

But I know god needs lots of money...

Why complain to me? I didn't start this thread.

But thanks for the heads up.

A Metatron: Probably because you stated your opinion of the LDS Church. Don't worry about it.

Enigma,

I will pray for you, that your work goes well!

Have a safe journey, and please come back as soon as your time permits you.

If Metatron's posting was "religious" then so was enigma's and the postings that followed encouraging his "mission" and the warning should have been issued at any of those points. Instead it was only issued to one individual.

There was no discussion of theology or disparagement of doctrine simply an opinion on the activity in question: door-to-door salesmen peddling an un-asked-for product of questionable need.

While I agree with many of you that door to door proselytizing is not popular among most people, there was no need to comment on this issue as this is quite possibly Enigma's last post on Classic-Castle for several years. He was giving a reason of why he will not be on CC and wishing farewell to his friends here.

Debates on Mormonism, LDS, door to door salesmen, etc are best left for other fan sites with off topic forums such as www.lugnet.com I am locking this thread. If any CC member would like to discuss this further with me, send me a pm or email.
