temporary goodbye...

Post by BrianofBrick06 »

Hello everyone. I am going to try and keep this short. I have enjoyed my time here, among many good people, but i will be enlisting to serve my country at some point around the beginning of the summer (i hope that such service does not offend anyone). So, i just wanted to leave a message here explaining why i will no longer be around. I really hope to pick up the hobby again someday, but for now, im selling most of my collection. I should be online for at least a little while before i leave. Thanks to everyone for good times, and even better friendships...

Never, ever feel that service to your country is offensive.

I hope you kept some choice pieces from your collection. It would be a shame to have to rebuild from scratch when (not if) you come out of your dark age.

Best of luck to you and stay safe.

Yea, I agree... no reason to sell your collection... just put it in a box and pack it up... I believe you'll be glad you did someday.

Oh, and yea, good for you to serve. I don't know why you'd be afraid someone would be offended by that... it's an admirable thing to do~ :)

Good luck in your endeavour! Don't sell!! You will regret it in the future.

Keep in touch. CC isn't going away. I will emphatically agree with what others have said here. Try to keep some of your stuff and if you come across anyone that is "offended" by your service, send them my way. I'll get their head straight....or remove it from their body :sly:

I'm with Quickblade22, keep what you can you will regret letting them all go and Serivce to your Country is never something that anyone should find offensive, I served for 6 years before I was medically discharged and I applaud you for wanting to do it. I wish you the best of luck and God Bless.

Well, just to clear up any confusion... I have tried to be as respectful as i could during my stay here, and all i meant was that if anyone had any sort of beliefs which would oppose my entering the service, then i apologize because my enlistment has nothing to do with this website and i meant not to offend anyone by any means. Although, regardless of who would be offended it would not change my plans or patriotism for my country. I hope that helps clear the waters that some of you have been struggling through.

Also, i am selling most of my collection because i need the money. I understand and appreciate all of the advice, but it is just not practical for me to hold on to my lego currently. I do hope to get back into things in the future, however, i do not know when that will be. Once again, i hope i have helped to make things a lot more clear. Thanks for your time...

Hope you have a safe tour of duty, and that we see you back on here when the time's right!

PS fwiw, I'm rebuilding from nothing, having lost all my collection (which was pretty large) when we moved a few times in my late teens, the internet's a godsend for replacing rare/out of production stuff, the only one thing I wish I'd kept was this one single minifig I was kind of attached to, but LEGO imo and the access to things like Bricklink means you should be able to recoup everything later if you want to - just thought I'd chuck that in as one who has (albeit for different reasons & in different ways) lost it all and started from nothing - in case it's any comfort to having to say goodbye for now to all your stuff. :)

Well, I'm sorry to hear that you have to go and also sorry to hear that you have to sell your Lego.

But I do want to wish good luck and thank you for deciding to serve your country.

Best wishes!
Josh

Farewell and thank you, Brian, for serving your country.

I hope you get the money you need, and (hopefully) can keep some of your Lego collection.

God bless you for your service!

Good luck mate! Hope you don't have to be parted from Lego for too long. We here at Classic-Castleshire will be eagerly awaiting the return of brave Sir Brian VI of Brick. We don't have a salute smiley, so I guess the wavy-face will have to do...

Yep it would be pretty silly to join the military just to anger someone on a forum ;)
No, seriously though, I don't think anyone here doubts that you made your decision for all the right reasons, and I'm sure you're proud to have the opportunity to do what you're about to do. Good luck serving your country, it's an admirable cause!
See you when you get back (like Quickblade said, CC ain't goin' nowhere)

Hey,

As with others, I'd suggest you don't sell all your LEGO. I can attest that it is really great to drag out that box of bricks that sat covered in dust in your parents' basement for the last decade and get back into the hobby. At the very least save back a shoebox of minifigs - ten years later you'd pay a lot to get the same figures back that were cheap and plentiful now.

Best of luck with training, and stay safe if you ever get deployed to an active warzone.

I guess this is the kind of thread where you expect me to chime in and say something stupid ;) I'm happy you've found a cause that's meaningful to you but sad to see you go. Best of luck, and - I have to add - I agree in advicing against the selling off of your collection (but the need for money is something I understand as well of course).

Take care! (and do come back!)
