Another enthusiast arrives...

Post by mcrankinchuk »

Hello everybody. I guess you can add another brickhead to the mix. I've been lurking for a few days and I can't hold it back any longer. I LOVE LEGO AND THE CHALLENGES WHEN BUILDING WITH IT. I'm also twenty years old.

My girlfriend plays along. I can tell that inside, she's laughing at the kid in me. However, I don't think I'll ever grow out of this. I've been playing with lego from the age of four or five and on. It's been a long and bumpy road and I thank my parents everyday for buying me my first lego airplane and cruise ship when I was a young lad.

I'm kind of excited here. I've never found a group of people who actually wanted to talk about lego. Imagine my surprise when I find entire websites dedicated to a toy for children. I thought I was the only adult who still enjoyed this stuff.

Anyway, I grew up building towns, police stations, airports and space stuff. I recently had this major itch to build a massively detailed castle. I'm not a seasoned castle builder and my gray bricks are few and far between. I don't have a single light gray castle wall and I don't have enough slopes...but it's a work in progress.

So before you all fall asleep, my name is Chris Rankin and I'm a kid at heart. I'm Canadian. I thoroughly enjoy playing with lego blocks and I'm going to enjoy posting here.

Thanks for reading.

Hey Chris,

You'll find that a LOT of us have experienced that same feeling, like, we're a little weird for playing with a toy, and then finding out that there's a WHOLE community devoted to it. We even have an acronym! How cool is that? :D
anyway, I clipped out a news article about fifteen years ago that stated that the oldest member at that time of the lego fan club was in his eighties. At that moment I stopped worrying about being a grown up. :D
Some of our members are almost that old. ;) (yeah you know who I'm talking about...)

So from one AFOL to another... Welcome! - make sure you get over to Brickshelf and set up a free account so we can see your creations!

Man, you guys sure know how to welcome a guy. An eighty+ year old, eh? I guess the "4-99" age on the boxes of LEGO isn't just a suggestion. :)

While we're on the subject of acronyms though, I'm a little bit lost on some of them. I've figured out what a BURP is, what a LURP is and while reading the MOC board yesterday, I even figured out what SNOT was. I actually find that one the most intriguing and innovative. Still, if somebody could fill me in on the most common acronyms I'd appreciate it. ABS and AFOL in particular.

Also. I did set up a Brickshelf account today. I took a few pictures of a bridge leading to a castle which has yet to be constructed. I'll post it on the MOC page and await the suggestions. Thanks.

An AFOL is "adult fan of lego"
And ABS is some kind of plastic.

Welcome guest and howdeedo! This small forum belongs to you, And our site and all that's in it... Make yourself at home each minute. All is yours that you like best, you're at home now... Welcome, Guest!

What's an AFOL? You are! I am, we all are. Adult Fan of LEGO. Well, except Nathan, but who's counting him? ;) ABS is what LEGO is made of, and I'm not even going to attempt to spell it.

Welcome to Classic-Castle, and don't be afraid to ask any question. The only stupid question is the one never asked.

If you're counting 17.5 as an adult I'm one, but if you aren't, I'll hang out with Nathan :P

Um... yeah....

Is someone who is 17 years, 365 days (this is a leap year, remember), 6 hours, 36 minues old an AFOL?

Just curious.....

Make that 37 minutes now.... :D

Also, ABS is the kind of plastic that the bricks are made from, just to elaborate on what Scnicker said.

Welcome aboard, eh? For more acronyms, check out Shiri's guide, where you can learn to tell your HOG from your KABOB.
