Mini Review of Set 7036 Dwarve's Mine

thats why you get someone you know to pick them up for you Athos and bring them next time they see you at a SACBB meeting or whatever.

That'd take more time that it would to wait until next week when they are available at the Target down the street. Besides, I don't get over the hill much anymore...

I too saw the Dwarves at Target last night, though I did not pick up a set.

This is obviously a roundabout way for LEGO to give fans something that strongly resembles The Hobbit / The Lord of the Rings, without acquiring a complicated tie-in license. Right? In the recent past, they've given us Gondor-reminiscent Crown Knights, round shields from the Vikings (Rohan reminiscent), Horse Knights from KKII (3) (more Rohan), and dark red, Mordor-like Scorpion Knights from KKII (1, 2). There's an evil Sorcerer out now, and an impulse set, good Magician...somewhere? Okay, they are generic fantasy characters, but they do make "imagining" LEGO-as-Tolkien much easier.

So thank you LEGO, for the dwarves and the orc-like "trolls" (and the new troll, too)...I just might pick up a set sooner than later!

Two on the shelf at the Richmond Target on West Broad @ Libbie when I swung by this afternoon: and two when I left (not in the budget ).

I picked up one of them. There are a bunch at the Target at Midlothian & Courthouse.

This is a great set and a fun build. The mining carts and catapults are my favorite features (aside from the figs). They added in some neat details with the anvil and war hammer.

The figs are awesome, although I wish the beards could be used with more types of headgear. I highly recommend this set to anyone who is thinking of getting it.

Well said. I agree this is very much like Johnny Thunder in lieu of Indy for so many years. I hadn't considered the Viking/Rohan connection, but that is a great point. As Tolkien himself would have said: applicable, yet not analogous. Nice catch Pacificus.

I got one of these a few days ago on sunday. The mine is really pretty neat and the Dwarfs are great! The orcs/goblins/mini-trolls are cool too. Whenever I pick up one of the dwarves I immediately want to make a 'The Hobbit' themed mountain full of gold and jewels! Which brings memorys of Brickfest...

For $50 this is a great set!

Have any of you heard news about mini battle packs for dwarves? I know there are small sets, but I was hoping for like a five figure battle pack since I can't afford all these sets put together

What type of door would that be? I havent picked it out in the pictures. Granted i probalby missed it, staring me right int he face but : )

Pacificus, I agree with that.

I really don't want to start a whole LOTR thing, although the thought of building the grand city of Gondor is intriguing... and I agree with the aspect of of Lego giving us all those "loosely based" LOTR elements. Yikes! What a daunting thought!

The Lego store at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg Illinois will start selling the Dwarf sets this Sunday.

OK, they are in the Target in Sherwood, OR. Many. I got one. Duh.

I am less harsh on the "orc" sword. I think it is too big, but other than that it is quite good. Even the size can be chalked up the Lego chunkyness inherent in the minifig. I am also more amicable to the troll. In person it is less other-brandish. The fit and finish is of the high quality I expect from Lego products. The figs are just great. Just what I have asked for from TLC for years. So many possibilities with these figs...

Lost in all this is the excellent set, at least for me. The build was fun, even though my daughter did most of it. The set is one of the better castle sets on it's own merit.

I really see the LOTR connections for us. Apart from what has been mentioned, the box calls this the "Dwarves' Mine." That's a Tolkien invention, because "dwarfs" is the correct plural of dwarf. The silver winged helms will look great on Gondorian Tower Guards like Beregond. The gold wnged helm may work great for Isildur. Ah, the possibilities!

The great figs, and the mine itself make this one of the best castle sets in the current line. In fact it's one of my favorite sets already, that's saying a lot. But then again, I'm partial to dwarves.

The mine carts' sides are 1x3x2 car doors in dark green. it's pretty clever, actually. Like others I had feared they'd be one-piece.

I picked this up at my local Target. After building it I must say 10 years from now this will be looked back on just as fondly as 6086. I think this is my new favorite set after the Black Knight's Castle. The Dwarves's Mine has just as many pros compared to its few cons.

One weird thing was the gold winged helmet was loose in the box and the poly-bag had two silver winged helmets. I poped that extra silver helmet on a viking gave him the battle hammer and made myself a Thor.

The orc swords are not really as oversized in person as they appear in the pictures. They are a little big but not that bad at all. My only complaint on the troll is that his elbow is a right angle so he can't actually swing his club forward and hit the ground. Otherwise I love the troll.

Hey folks - get this: I was at the LEGO imagination center yesterday (Wednesday) and THEY didn't have the new Dwarve's set! I then stopped by two Target locations in the Twin Cities' area and found nothing. Anyone in MN find this yet?

Both Targets I went to had the set. Hastings and Burnsville (off of county rd 42). The best part is that the set was on sale this week! $44.99 (at least at the Burnsville one where I purchased)

One of the best sets for the money.
