That is very nice for the US and Canadians. I do hope that helps get a few of these nice sets.

As I said before I think this chess set is amazing but the price was so high that AFOL's even would have to pause. I have house repairs, utilities, living expenses etc that have to go before Lego.... or should go before them. I am happy for those that now have this within their price bracket.

I seriously hope the Australian price drops.

At $200 each, I'd pick up two in a heartbeat.

Another sixteen trolls, dwarves...

I mean, heck, I've already got in the realm of 50+ Crownies (All decked out in body armour, shields and with spare weapons, Thankyou Bricklink!) but only about thirty Trolls/Orcs. That'll really bolster my Trolls, aswell as the Impulse set coming out later which I plan to get six of.

I wouldn't count on it. The American price drop makes sense because Americans are used to paying lower prices on pretty much everything. The Canadian price now matches with international pricing. I doubt that everybody will see the same price drop that the US did simply because LEGO knows that non-American markets are used to (and willing) to pay that premium.

Darn. Knowing that US$200 is the equivalent of AU$213.30 (0.93 Current conversion rate) that's a fair bit of a rift for us down here.

Mayhaps I'll find a Knight in Shining Armour willing to purchase a couple of extra copies for me and ship them over. Even with the added shipping it'd still work out cheaper than getting them here.

Agreed, I always found it rather ridiculous that Australians had to pay more for their lego sets than Americans did, even when accounting for posting and other transaction costs.

I could see Lego reducing the price to $250 but no less really, which is a shame. Nevertheless, I still think that at $300 this set is good value.

Well, Australians really don't pay more than most of the world. America is simply something of an exception when it comes to pricing. I'm sure buyers in Britian, France or Germany would love US pricing just as much as you guys would. I think that international prices are just something most American buyers won't accept. I can only guess that the price was changed due to lackluster response from American pre-orders.

Honestly, the biggest setback for me is that this set just isn't that inspired. It's a few good minifigs with alot of extra kibble. It simply doesn't have the wow factor of say the Cafe Corner or the Green Grocer. You don't hear alot of people complain about those sets if only because they are so darned impressive.

I think you're being a little excessively negative there B&W, Notice how THICK this chess-board is. I imagine this thing come with a wealth of useful castle building parts and with that many figs this is a monster set. I think it's worth owning and I think it's very inspired. Heck it inspires me already. I think this set may even be secretly what we all want anyway and if not enough of us do I think to buy it. Lego, I'm not worthy.

Hey Foxglove and smegged

I dont think we have anything to worry about. There will probably be plenty of these scooped up by Ebay/briclinkers when they are further reduced at US Lego outlets like the Royal King's Castle was:

Look at the average purchased price for this 2006 SAH exclusive now:

I am really happy for the the US castle Fans, what an amazingly quick turn around by LEGO, they didn't even try to sweeten the price with 50x flags first.

The next thing they'll do is jack up the price to 400. 200 is nice I planned on buying one at 300 so at 200 I might have to buy some impulse sets as well.

Well, that was nice of them.

I think $199 is pretty much fair for this set, in terms of US set pricing. Proportionally, it matches the European pricing (33% more expensive than Green Grocer, instead of 100% more expensive), although obviously it's cheaper here in the US (as all LEGO is).

Now, $200 is still a lot of money to spend on plastic blocks, so I'm not sure if my poor college student self will be able to afford it. But I do want it. :D
I collect LEGO themes that start with "C." And Pirates. I call them "Corsairs."

Woot! I must have missed something reading this, because I just now saw that the price dropped to $200 USD. I was most certainly acquire at least one at that price, I might even push for more.

Holy Shmoley. I need to find a job really bad now...

I'm with Thomas. That was VERY nice of them!!!

Now I might actually consider buying this set. It's almost (NOT really) unfortunate that there are soooo many nice sets coming out lately. And with my situation I'm not sure if I'll be able to buy one larger set, much less multiple sets. Ahh, what to do!?!?

Nice for folks in the US to have their usual low low prices. Well, if the price for Ireland drops to say €150, I would indeed be considering this! Green Grocer was only €130 here, and even considering minifigs cost more, it's a push to justify spending the outlay of €200 on the chess set.

I want this, as it seems to have a lot of useful figs and accessories, but I'll wait until the price goes down...

I've even thought of a way to use the tiles. Like an alternating black and white tile floor in a room or something.
