i will take a pictures in a couple of days, both my digital cams are unavilable atm, and pic from mobile phone doesn`t show details (lego logo ) so all of you who still think its impossible will see its is REAL and QUIET POSSIBLE.

don`t forget legos are created in different factories around europe and it is posible that something went wrong in some of the factorys.

...look at reversed shields! i have 2 of those...it is also impossible right? hm..hm....hm....NO!

i also got dark gray big horns/end of serpent tail) and red small horns in viking ship box instead of green and white...this suold be also impossible? well it isn`t...

just noticed something...i was about to send mail to lego reg. reversed flag and saw something ....

go to www.lego.com / customer service / replacement parts and you will see picture of reversed flag whan you choose 7009 sets!

I don't think its impossible, its very possible. I just want to see a picture, when you have access to your camera. Also, if you take the picture next to something with printing, then no one can say the picture has been reversed.

The problem with the other items you mentioned is that they aren't molding issues. Molding issues like this flag are much less common. Reversed printing and substituted pieces are fairly common. Also the picture you pointed out it a computer rendering, so it isn't any kind of official verification.

Can't wait to see your picture!

This is really odd. Why would they make a new mold just to have flags go the other way. There have been times where I've used flags as a structural detail where it would have been nice to have matched pairs of mirror-image flags. For instance, if you hang two flags vertically against a wall attached to a 1x1 plate with clip light or a 1x2 plate with handle, the waves don't match up. Not a big deal I suppose, as real flags wouldn't ripple and wave perfectly uniformly. More noticeable if you did something like use flags as wings on a microscale spaceship or something.

Well, those are more plausible mistakes. It's pretty easy to print something backwards or to put in something of the wrong color. That kind of thing happens now and again (more the latter than the former, it seems). But reversed flags would require that they actually constructed a separate mold that was reversed from their old mold-- which is a pretty huge mistake (if it's a mistake)! Especially considering that they typically use their old molds as a guide for their new ones, and/or have everything digitally recorded for making new molds.

Ahhh, now that's interesting! What's more interesting (to me, anyway) is that they've got the normal and reversed flags with the identical part numbers! If you compare the 7009 instruction PDF with the replacement parts webpage, you'll see they're using the same part number, but with different images!

Often, when they change a part mold, it gets a new part number. It helps them to know which bins to take parts out of, in case the old part isn't compatible with the new ones (or something similar). Interesting indeed!

yes it could have clever uses! i don`t mind its reverse at all, but it looks sooo odd on spear.

I bet that this is a replacement mold, meaning that when one of the pennent molds wore out, they made a new one. Perhaps the parameters for the mold were entered in backwards or something. I don't think they did this on purpose. Though it definitely has its uses!

Well, here it is in 2008's Castle 7037 Tower, pictured in this Brickshelf photo:

Odd indeed.

Wow! That is really odd. Thanks for finding the picture. In some ways I suppose it is more natural this way - flags in the wind wouldn't all flap in perfect unison, but it looks odd just from my normal LEGO experience.

I think it's pretty dang cool. I always hated having a bunch of flags with the same wave. It's time to diversify!

I always thought you were just supposed to turn one upside down to get this effect.
