New York Toy Fair 2011

Postby Halberd777 » Mon Feb 14, 2011 2:51 pm

I noticed this while browsing over at Brickset.

Under the New York Toy Fair click on the fbtb flickr stream. The new castle sets photos are on the second page and with very detailed coverage.

I also noticed approximated prices on each set. If these prices are correct then I will be buying quite a few of the blacksmiths approx $10.00. However the Carriage ambush looked rather pricey at $40.00.

Gotta say I am a fan of the first version of the dragon knight armor over the second, but that is just my style 8) However I am all about the new dark grey visor, and plain armor in the blacksmith set!

On the mill set: It looks like an absolutely fantastic parts set. Lots of browns, tans, and dark grey. The minifigs are even better than I thought. The mill mechanism is ingenius. I don't get a lot of non castle sets... Are those ball gears in the mill a new peice? Someone over at Eurobricks noted that turning the weather vane is the winch mechanism on the barn. Genius!

The carriage set: The king looks incredible. The back of his torso is as good as the front. I was wondering how the hammer functioned. I'm not impressed but it does work.

The Dragon's prison: Like Username the first thing I noticed was that the helmet was also in dark pearl. At the German toy fair last week it was still black. I like the new printing on the armor. Also those bars on the front of the prison look new to me. It is like a matching set of the doors but without a handle on it.

The blacksmith set: That apron looks great I can see a whole lot of artisans plying their wares in an apron like that. The new weapons are growing on me, but not the bow...

I'm glad the prison set is cheaper than the carrige as I like it a lot better and will probably buy a couple of them.

Hi All,

I've been a member here since November, but just haven't had anything to post really yet. I just noticed something, however that might be useful..

Is this a new dark brown tree piece? This set might be a good piece set, being only $11.99:

HTH, Thanks!!

Welcome Svede. Yes that is a new slope (65 degree 2x1x2) in dark brown. However, I think the mill is a better place to get that piece. It has atleast 16 included in it.

I think power miners used that part quite a bit and I know it was used in the Endor Bunker set to make the AT-ST's legs do their function. Outside of that I'm not sure what other sets it's been in but I sure wish I had a few more than I do. As for the weather-vane, I'm not quite sure how it works as the winch mechanism. To me it looks like it's just a 1x1 brick with 5 studs on top of a 2x2 dome piece. The dome seems to be too low to grip and turn and the actual rooster would just spin on the stud. Now I'm curious.
Trevor

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

Why do you suppose the soldier in 7188 has a fish? It seems very Monty-Pythonesque.

Thanks Dale. I guess the screenshot was focused on the slope but I was actually referring to the tall tree branch/arch piece. I also noticed this piece is the dark brown in a couple potc sets as well.

Ah, those are not new pieces. They're really, really useful–-so it's good to see them included in a variety of sets–-but they're not knew. For instance, I believe that they were in the Medieval Market Village set, among others.
