The Kingdoms line is basically gone from the store completely. There were two areas near the back, completely covered away where they kept the Joust sets and then a pile of Medieval Market. I got so frustrated when I saw the MM because I remember rushing out to buy it the first couple of weeks of its release, worried it would sell out like the battle packs always did. So I skipped buying the large Castle Siege, but it turned out I would never see that set again.

I just built this last night...I have to say the pictures don't do it justice - the completed set is one of the most beautiful you'll ever see.

The best bit of the build was definitely the twin towers and large archway behind the joust proper - so much attention to detail, interesting build techniques and new (to me) and interesting pieces. I have to say that if you are into castle MOCing you won't be disappointed with the parts selection on offer in this set!

The minifig selection is a bit of a let-down - the only new figures are the nobleman and princess (although I have to admit the princess is gorgeous), all the others are repeats from other sets. The Falcon knight's armour, shield and barding are new, but his torso/leg prints are just the same as the Dragon Knights from the rest of the Kingdom's line. There's also an interesting smattering of accessories so I got a couple of printed tiles I haven't had before, plus a bread stick, cherrries, a book etc etc

I think it is important to note that this set is designed for display - there're no play features at all (although my son was quite happy this morning to have the Lion knight roundly beat the Falcon Knight and imprison him in the attic of one of the towers). Also, while the interiors of the main building have some furniture and other detailing, looking sideways you are literally only getting half a building - you will need two sets if you want to have a fully enclosed structure viewable from 360 degrees.

Overall I give this two thumbs up - it's great whether or not you want to build it and display it or utilise the parts for your own castle creations.

Mine just arrived in the post about an hour ago. :D :D

Can't wait to sit down with a few drinks and build this later tonight ... Its like Christmas all over again.

The only thing I'm planning on changing is replacing the Falcons plume and change the tent colour to dark blue instead of green to make him fit in better with the other Falcons.

Edited about 10 hours later... Its awesome!!! I just finished the set and had 50 left over pieces and these were just the bonus parts. This set is one of the best sets I've built.. Theres only a little bit of repetitive building.. at the start of the towers and during the side walls.
The parts are so great they are the basic parts like tiles and plates but there are sooo many of them in good castley colours greys and brown. Basic parts that have been lacking in recent sets. There are so many 1x1 tiles and plate pieces in brown, grey and dark grey. It has many of the basic 1x1 bricks in grey and 1x2 log pieces.
The figures are great although I ended up with a pink barding on the Lion horse and the prince aka Romeo has some pink detailing where it is supposed to be white. [yes pinkitis is back] I also have 1 Lion shield that has some very bad printing it seems like they were running out of red during this shield.. It looks like its fading.

The poo scooper kid made me laugh [some might call him a squire].... he carries a pitchfork and a bucket.. call him what you want :D.

Not sure how it works as a gatehouse seeing how it stands a full 7 bricks taller than the castle :D

:) great review TeufelHund.
I agree this set is more for display then for play. But it really needs two of these to make it complet

Yeah I understand that you are exited to build your Joust set :spin:, I would be too, the set is pretty amazing.
Are you going to use pantasy era dark blue or classic old Falcon blue, maybe dark blue pieces go better with Kingdoms. In Mill village attack, there is that dark blue plume, I use it for my high rank Black Falcon and I replaced it with an green plume on the steel rooster thats on the stable roof. :D

I think I will go for Dark blue.. It seems to fit in better with the Current theme but helps to tie it in with the classic sets.
Black and dark blue seems to be the next evolution of the Falcons. or silver and black.

I'm definitely thinking about getting another of these sets. For a back to back tower... It seems unfair that its all about the lions.. Its needs a Falcon pavilion with the Black Falcon and his queen.

I picked this up earlier in the week and finally finished it today. This one is a worthy successor to the MMV and there is absolutely nothing about this set that is disappointing. I'm sure it would look even better if you did buy two copies and put them together, but I only purchased one copy and I thought it still looked pretty good by itself. I especially liked the green princess and thought her dress design was the best one we've received yet. I agree with Dyntar that this is also a great parts pack as there are lots of great castle-y parts with no BURPS or pre-fab wall pieces. Sets like this have been worth the wait and I look forward to more sets like this in the future.

I'm convinced that there is no version of that barding that doesn't have pinkitis - Lego twice sent me replacements for the one in the Prison Tower Rescue set and both times they were pinker than the (pink) original. Now after getting another pink version in this set I've decided I just have to accept that that's the way it is.

Yes, all of mine (7 so far) are pink as well. I just ordered 50 from the LEGO group and I am imagining they will be pink as well. Even so I really like the armored part.

I also had LEGO send me replacements for the 4 pink bardings I received in prison tower rescues, and yes, the replacements were pink. I was hoping this problem would have been fixed by the time the joust came out.

Yes You are right, they are pink, one Kings barding was a bit less pinkish. The white color was thicker on that one. But the others I have they are so pink. But I don`t think theres anything to do about it. :?

Hi!

I just build the joust and I like it very much. It's the first time I understand why the 1x1 cheese slopes starts at a half-plate-high. If you build them with the studs on side (I know, they don't have studs, but I hope you know what I mean) they don't have that little degree. I have to try this in a MOC.

The little blue building on the one wallelement is in sandblue. I thought it was midblue on the pictures.
The bread is in earth orange.

My barding of the horse is pink, too. So it's not an american problem, it's global. And the Printing of the skirt of the queen is very poor. It's kind of slipped.

But over all I love this set.

regards,
jens

This has been a continuing problem for female figs for the last few years. Specifically I have issues with Elizabeth from POTC, the queen from the advent calendar from last year, and I have heard of others. TLG has been made aware of it, and the response is that is is a design printing issue and they were going to add a comment to something that they can not make 100% alignment for the printing these types of figs.

How? They aren't on PAB, so did you just ask somebody to grab you some? Also, I'm curious how much you paid.
