If I remember correctly. The first fleshies were introduced so the LEGO company could make a representative figure for Lando Calrissian. Making Lando and the other figures all yellow just was not working well. Also the NBA minifigs needed flesh tones to represent real basketball players. And so it began. I wouldn't mind fleshies at all if I didn't have so many yellow castle figs. It just seems too hard to change over at this point. That is why I think I will keep my LOTR figs seperate from the rest of my castle stuff.

I don't think it's meant to be an Elvish blade; I'm pretty sure it's the sword he's seen wielding at Helm's Deep:

I do plan on changing all of my flesh tone LotR heads to yellow, so I am going to have to come up with something else for Legolas. Thankfully the orcs and goblins etc. will still be fine. :]

The sword was picked up at Rohan. (That is the style of the blade)

I don't know if this picture is allowed on here. Feel free to delete the link if the pics a forbidden.

They were taken at a Toy fair so I guess they aren't protected images anymore.
Its a link I found on another site. These are pictures of the characters from the Universal Monster line, Super Heroes and the main characters from LoTR.

No, Toy Fair is an official announcement. It looks like Toy Fair London attendees are not (or maybe are not yet) allowed to take photos in the booth, but this is the publicly available artwork on the outside of the booth.

Image

Some quick notes - a new hairpiece mold that is used for all four hobbits, little bits of fleshy color show up on all of the hobbit torsos and also Aragorn (darn), Elf ears the same as the collectible fig, but fleshy, is the Ring a Clickit ring or a new mold?, new dwarf beard I think, same hair mold for Aragorn and Boromir (was that one in a collectible fig?)

Good pick-up, dyntar.

Does anyone else think that the cheekbone lines on minifig heads make them look bloated, or is it just me?

Besides that, I think these look great. It looks to me like Gandalf has a new beard mold, too (although this could just be a trick of the rendering process).

well I have a few things to say about this pic,

first off, bruce, those hair pieces are from prince of persia.

secondly, I love that there are more short person capes coming with the hobbits. :D

third, I bet that if they are making a licensed theme of Lord of the Rings,
they will make a video game of it. (wouldn't that be awesome!) :woo:

and fourth, the hobbit hairs are really cool and would work perfectly for some peasants! they would go great with my new village mill set! :eyebrows:

and in conclusion, I think that that ring frodo has is a new mold!

Do you mean eurobricks by any chance ;)

Guess this confirms legolas will be using the series 3 CMF elf bow by the looks of things? And that the character poster with his hair/quiver/bow combo was a trick of CG and not something they could recreate in lego form.

There is a no photo policy at the toy fair, but this doesn't seem to stop people, and guess most of the security is around the actual unreleased sets, and not over massive posters on the side of exhibitions :D

My enthusiasm for this line has just increased dramatically. While I'm not really a fan of the torsos I can see in this picture, the hair pieces look fantastic, especially the ones on each of the hobbits. Gimli's helmet, however, is what really stands out to me. My suspicion is that he will only show up in some of the most expensive sets.

Gotta admit, the minifigs look better than I anticipated. Boromir's coloring looks a bit odd to me (torso etc), but other than that I'm pleasantly surprised. I do wonder what the orcs are going to look like and whether or not they'll try and create a Sauron mini.

Hey guys,

Huw Millington of Brickset was at Toy Fair and has reports (not allowed to take photos inside the booth, unfortunately) of the various new themes. Here is his report on the Tolkien theme:
*

I'm back! It was excellent!

Although photography was not allowed on the stand, there was nothing stopping photos being taken of the stand: the sides and, for that matter, from the balcony above. This picture was decorating the side of the stand and as you can see it shows the whole Fellowship of the Ring.

So, what was on display inside the stand? Everything. Or at least everything that LEGO will let normal retailers sell. Of particular interest to us was the Marvel Super Heroes; LOTR; Summer Star Wars, Technic, and Ningago; Monster Fighters and Friends.

In this article I'll tell you about LOTR and will discuss other themes in later articles.

First, to answer a quesion I can see has been asked in the comments of the article below, the ring IS a real gold-chromed ring with a hole big enough for Frodo to grip it in his hand. All seven sets were on display and I'll tell you what I remember of them. Actually, before I do that THERE IS A NEW HORSE! Yes, the minifig horse has been redesigned and its hind legs now swivel so it can be made to rear! I'm not sure if all the horses in all the LOTR sets were like this but the ones in Attack on Weathertop certainly were.

9469, Gandalf Arrives: 2 minifigs: Gandalf and Frodo, Gandalf on horse and cart with fireworks and snake in the back. I think the price was £9.99.

9470, Shelob Attacks: 3 minifigs: Frodo, Samwise and Gollom! Gollum looked great, hunched over with movable arms, a bit like skeleton arms but different. Shelob the spider looks fantastic and scary!

9471, Uruk-Hai Army: 6 minifigs: Eomer, Rohan soldier and 4 Urak-Hai. The set consists of a small section of wall, a horse with moving legs and a small siege machine. The wall can be joined to the Helms Deep castle, apparently, so this will make a great battle pack to extend the castle and build your armies.

9472, Attack on Weathertop: 5 minifigs: Frodo, Merry, Aragorn and two Ringwaiths on horseback. The set builds a small section of Weathertop with spiral staircase and ruins at the top.

9473, The Mines of Moria: 7 minifigs: Pippin, Gimli, Legolas, Boromir, a cave troll and two Moria orcs. The set builds a selection of sub-assemblies for mine walls, doors, pedestals etc.

9474, The Battle of Helm's Deep: 8 minifigs: Gimli, King Theoden, Haldir, Aragorn and 4 Urak-Hai warriors. The castle itself is fairly substantial, complete with the 'side door' used to gain entry

9476, The Orc Forge: 5 orcs with a forge, various metalworking tools and weapons.

Overall I was VERY impressed with these sets. Legolas' ears were attached to his head like the elf in the collectable minifigs but looked to be slightly bigger and better quality. The sets were well designed and highly desirable. As was pointed out to me by the stand guide dressed as Gandalf, you need to buy every set to get the whole Fellowship but I suspect many of us can't wait for the day when we can! They are to be released in August.

LEGO you are AWESOME!

I think Gimli looks the best, and much to my dismay, Boromir looks the worst :(

I really want to see the new weapons and armor now. Especially for the bad guys

First impression is that I love Gimli's helmet. Second is that all of the torsos are ruined by the fleshie necks. Now I just want to see what the uruk hai are going to look like. I read somewhere in the review that they're olive, so is that the same as the old Fantasy line orcs or is it lighter/darker? Also interested in what kind of weapons they'll get.

I think they are Olive Green, a rather rare color used in dinosaurs in the new Dino sets and in a few figs. It's "muddier" than the Fantasy Era trolls (who are Sand Green).

This Dino fig has an Olive Green uniform.
