Ever heard of Time Cruisers? Those LEGO designers of the late 90s had to be on some less than legal substances when coming up with it. http://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp ... String=157

That set is the Witch's Magic Manor. It seems that, when designing an alternate build, they got very bored or very drunk... Also, they had too many wings on hand... Hence wotsisname on the horse. What happened to the dragon's original red wings? According to my brother, some guy already tried the stunt with them.

Yes I have, the sets look like a bunch of random pieces from many different themes combined, Oh wait they are  . And the last six pages of 697 (1998 alternative model book) are really odd http://www.flickr.com/photos/76575933@N ... hotostream. Oh and almost forgot about U.F.O. and Insectroids. ~KnightMan~

Holy mother of... I never saw that line, but it beats Knight's Kingdom II, something I deemed impossible... It doesn't even have any useful parts (not even the mini's!), and the designs look like something my 13-year-old me would put together.

I agree the designs with Fright Knights weren't the best, I very much liked the figs (those torsos and faces, yay!) though, yes even the witch, because Lego hasn't really given us many witches up to this point and thus she's kinda unique. It was also an interesting line for me because of the whole 'Fright' theme; putting scary bad guys in the role of the protagonist was kinda unique for them as well. Practically every time someone creates bad / dark / evil doods, you see at least some parts of the Fright knights appearing.

Of course I may be biased because 2 of my first 3 sets were Fright Knights, but then I agreed the designs weren't all that ;) I believe Lego wanted to give their territory a bit of a 'ruinous' feel, which is interesting, but didn't work out so well...

I actually kind of liked Time Cruisers. I thought 6494-1 Mystic Mountain Time Lab was decent. I was happy to get some of the random pieces. I have used almost all of the extra Ice Planet visors I got from these sets to patch up used Ice Planet minifigs I got off eBay. The castle headgear was also useful.

Don't wizards usually wear robes? :P

The dark forester is pretty silly though.

You know the witch with the beard maby its a Scottish wizard wearing a kilt  . And it looks like the guy (or maby not) on the dragon has Willas head. So to sum it all up, a Forestman flapping wings at the edge of a cliff, a wizard wearing a kilt or a witch with facial hair issues, and possibly a woman with a spear on a dragon trying to kill the witch/wizard :twitch:  . ~KnightMan~

I think whoever was responsible for the packaging images was just having some 'wink to the adults' fun. Or they were extremely careless.

I agree the Fright Knights theme was a ridiculous mess, and it's not so difficult to figure out why Castle effectively vanished for seven years thereafter. What is difficult to figure out is how Lego went from releasing a set like Black Knight's Castle to this in just five years.

I also agree about the hilariously over the top backdrops. Did the Fright Knights skip nearly a millenium and build a shuttle that took them to Mars?

Lol.

Now that we're talking about funny covers anyway, it's not as blatant, but the cover of Black Knight's Castle is pretty funny too. The way it's depicted it's almost like the whole Black Knight army is chasing after the 1 unarmed Wolfpack dude

Looking at the new Monster Fighter's castle makes me wish the Fright Knights had been more along those lines in terms of set design.

I've noticed the 'alternate build' images included in the instructions are usually quite ridiculous - have you seen those of Royal Knight's castle? :roflol:
