I am actually really really excited about these!

Starting with lake town. I dont think the price is too bad, considering that it has the same number of minifigs and almost the same piece count, and the same price as warg attack last wave. Plus the master of lake town and thorin with that torso are probably both exclusive. I am thinking we will see bard and the lake town soldier again in a smaug attacks set, or battle of five armies set, but I could be wrong. The boat looks cool to me, even though it is similar to the vikings boat, I think it actually looks a bit better. There are a few rare or exclusive pieces I spotted, like the shield, some dark green pieces, and the masters hat. All of the minifigs are AWESOME looking, although bilbo is starting to get overused if you ask me. The set its self is just very cool looking, with the touches of snow here and there. I love boats, and docks and stuff too (one of my favorite sets is the midgard serpent vs viking ship set) so this is great for me... And I am also a total lotr/tolkien geek. :D I like Thorin coming out of the barrel after Bard collects them.

On to azog! I like this figure! He will certainly stand out (and up) among my other figs, but I think he looks very good over all. The tall legs are a nice touch to give him some extra hight, although I do think they are unnecessary. The head mold is also very cool, and looks just like azog if you just look at it, not the fig as a whole. Not that I am saying the fig does not look like azog, just the head mold is extremely movie accurate. However, I am not sure I like the neck and chest parts attached to it. I still think it looks ok though. His printing is excellent in my opinion. The barbed hand piece looks great too! The mace I don't like so much, I will probably build a replacement for it. All in all I really really like this figure!

Now for speculation on the other 4 sets in the wave.
1) I am really hoping for another mirkwood set, centered on Thranduils halls, including the throne and its surround, Thranduil himself, Legolas, Thorin, and a couple elven guards. This would be a small to medium sized set, at around 150-300 pieces, for about 20-30 dollars.
2) next I hope we get the interior of Erabor, with smaugs horde, Bilbo, and the great beast himself. Possible they could include some pillars and stairs and stuff all around. Size depends on whether smaug is brick-built or molded.
3) Beorns house. With Gandalf, bilbo, a dwarf or two, and Beorn (human form with tall legs like azog, and molded bear form). Hopefully also some farm animals. Then beorns house, with the big tables and chairs and everything. Medium to large sized set, probably cost 60-80 $.
4) I dont know! We could get a dol goldur, another scene from the first movie, or a preview scene from the third movie. But on second thought, I have read several places that leo has announced that the regular azog figure will be in a set this wave, so he could be included in the mikwood one, from what we see in the trailer, or maybe the Beorn one, depending on what happens just before this scene in the movie.

All in all I am getting really excited about this years Hobbit wave, and the film... The marketing strategy is working. :)

Just wanted to point out that in the warg attack set, you get.... well, WARGS! This, to me, was the only reason it was worth buying. I felt it was a little overpriced, even with the wargs in it.
Without something like that in this set, it doesn't have the same appeal, to me at least. I'll just BL the figs.

But, to each his own! :D

Yeah. I will probably be able to get the whole set for 10 bucks off at Target of off ebay... So it will be well worth it. To me.

I don't believe the Azog figure has tall legs. I think it's possible LEGO discontinued that assembly due to quality issues; the two legs tend to come together near the bottom if they are thrown in with other LEGO and not treated with special care since the hip piece offers considerably less support at that length.

Here's my 'wild speculation': :spin:

Thranduil in the Greenwood. Though they may save him for wave three, I expect him in this wave.

Dol Goldur with Radagast, Gandalf, and possibly the Necromancer depending largely on whether that subplot reaches its climax in this film or the next. I don't expect a Galadriel fig since I think LEGO will release a Lothlorien set next summer but I'd be pleasantly surprised if she were included.

Beorn's house. Less confident in this one but having just the books to go on, it's a key location with a great character.

Dale or Erebor with Smaug. I don't see LEGO not cashing in with Smaug this year but knowing PJ's penchant for 'creative license', the location could be anywhere from the secret door, the dragon hoard or the remnants of Dale to the islands of Aman.

There will likely be another Tauriel and Legolas in this wave since I figure they will be featured over-much in this next film.

Actually, seeing this, I went and got a random pair of legs out and held them next to the picture and I believe you are right. I am very gladdened by this, because it means my azog when I get one later this year will be able to ride his white warg without looking awkward, and Thorin will not be completely tiny compared to him. Thank goodness. He just looks a lot taller because of the head mold. Thank you for pointing this out.

I am warming to this figure quickly, and gaining momentum, especially after this.
