Join the weekly Classic Castle set review discussion. Please post your opinions on the set play ability, piece selection, design, etc. Which sets stand up to our catapult of critique and which ones crumble in shame!

This week’s set is 1624 King’s Archer.

King's Archer was released in 1993 as part of Castle Variety Pack 1597. This set contains an archery tournament target, one Crusader archer, and accessories.

This was one of the best variety packs.
You get the bush, the green plate and the rare target peice.
The other peices arn't that useful but you get a soldier with a bow and spear.
So I'd say it would get a 10/10

A well armed soldier, a target, a bush, and a place to stand.

The target piece, soldier, and weapons are the best part of this set. Add in an extra bush, a green baseplate (always useful) and the odd handful of extra bricks, this is a great little set, probably cheep too. If it was sold alone it would make a wonderful army builder. 10/10

Well its a set to get a fig I guess... The parts aren't really usefull (in my eyes). The fig is great tough.
7/10, but not a set to buy much, but a nice small expander.
Really reminds me of the KK1 set with the small archer turret and the soldier.

Considering that this set only comes with approximately 20 pieces, it is a killer set. Every last piece is useful: weapons, fig pieces, target, bush, green plate, arch, assorted black pieces. There is not one piece here that I would have trouble using in a Castle creation. Playability is rather bad, but what can you expect from a polybag-sized set?

Parts: 9.5/10
Figs/Accessories: 9/10
Playability: 4/10
Design (then): 7/10
Design (now): 8.5/10

Overall Score: 7.6/10

Looks like a good set. It comes with a nice shrubbery!

Hmmmm, I'm not really sure what to say, OH! i like when castle uses heads with beards.... as long as they're based on the generic smiley face.

The set has good pieces (all of which i would use), but at the time, it was not a very cost effective multi-purchase set. The cost/brick was high, and the minifigs were much less expensive in the minifig packs. Maybe you buy 1 to get the target, (if you didn't already have some the forestmen sets).

The shrubbery offsets the cost somewhat, but i still prefer the small trees instead.

Its a nice little set. Nifty design, a soldier, green plates and shrubbery, and the couple of black pieces make it 100% useful.

A very nice set. It has a bush, a target, a guy, some weapons. What more could you want? 10/10

Average set, I never liked the grey leggings.... Furthermore a king's archer with black arms isn't usual...... I don't own this set but I don't think that I would buy it (besides it wasn't in the catalogues)........

I loved the little sets like this one. 10/10 then and 15/10 compared to any of the smaller sets from the two Knight's Kingdom lines.

This set looks like it would have made a wonderful army builder. For that, I can only approve of it in every way. 10/10

As usual with those sets is it whether you like the minifig or not. I don't have that set (as most of the none 60xx sets which never arrived here and now cost a fortune for no reason on EvilBay). Of course the target tile is nice but other then that a simple set.
