Overall, I pretty much have to echo what has already been said: Original Forestmen had better sets, Dark Forest has some really nice figs. but the sets were still worth getting.

From a personal standpoint, I started in on Castle in '99, and Dark Forest came out in '96, so none were to be found at that point. Then I found one single Walmart with 23 copies of 6079. I thought I'd wait for a price cut.

Eight months later, no price cut and all 23 were still there. It finally went down by $10 and they started moving. I got four for myself and four for people on Lugnet. Then 6024 showed up for $2 at the KB Outlet. So I do have fond memories of Dark Forest because it was a heck of a lot better than the Fright Knights stuff that was on clearance at the time.
