This was one of the first sets that I bought mostly for myself after my son grew interested in other things. I thought it was fun to build, and is a nice-sized addition to a castle collection. It has been boxed up for several years, but I think I'll have to pull it out & build it again!

Love the comments about roasting the driver.

When I first bought it and assembled it, my wife took one look at it and said

"Since when do dragons need chauffers?"

I always look at this set and think "Yes, sir, Mr. Dragon sir. Anything you need, Mr. Dragon sir."

I owned it, the most expensive set I got of the Dragon Masters (sob).

The set makes no sense- the driver gets toasted and the dragon is stuck in there- if they are the masters of the dragons, then the dragon shouldnt be able to breathe in his neck, and if its the opposite, why lock the beast in?

Else, its a very good set, should preferably be used as a prison transport- very good for that. Piece-vise, it rocks. Ladders in da house!

This was my first DM set. I played with it the whole afternoon that day, and I would do so today. Yes, the coachman turns into a roast beef, but still, the set idea is cool. Back into my childhood I liked to think of this set not only as a transport wagon, but also as a Dragon-Master challenge piece: each Dragon Master would take his squire, a wagon and hunt a dragon. Eeep, I feel like derailing...

Great piece selection, average number of minifigs (but the 2 are very cool!), a dragon (useful only before the viking ones, (though)), good equipment and horses. Lots of playability and a nice design. Worth a 9/10 (yes, this set made my childhood a little better  ).

I love this set.

I never considered that the driver got roasted either, how strange. What I really like about the wagon was the jumper plates that hold the three-wide dragon squarely in the middle of the cage. i thought that was just the mose clever thing LEGO had ever done (it's still pretty close to the top of that short list of cleverness). I thought the saddle was nice (though a stupid color) and I've always loved the Dragon Master figures, even the dumpy-looking ones with the frowny moustache. The overabundance of ladders is wonderful, it gave me enough to add ladders to more recent sets.
I had no idea that flag ever came in a double-sided variety. My pirate flages are two-sided, but I have the one-side version of this one. It's still my favorite official flag, though.

Then: 9/10
Now: 10/9

Azure, a saltire cantoned with a star in chief and in base and two crescents addorsed in the flanks, argent.

Wow!

I loved this set when I first got it, it was so nice, with the dragon, horses, a saddle, and two Knights (I really like that one fierce-looking warrior with the halberd). The amount of ladders is wonderful and these pieces have been my friends for many different models.

There is not that much else you can make with this set with the hinges and all, but it is a nice addition to one's Castle, even though Mr. Driver gets fried! He looks a bit dim-witted in my opinion, but that just adds to the minifig's overall character. If you don't have it, hunt it down, it's worth it, at least in my opinion.

A nice set reminiscient of the old Lego days (the days of Knights that looked like Knights and not Power Rangers). It is nice enough to attract the history lovers, but just close enough to fantasy to attract those fans. (Of course, in my mind, it is completely accurate, except for the dragon's body design itself, because I believe in dragons, as one can see from my signature, oh, and as for the fire breathing thing, Leviathan had that covered.)

Let us see a revival of these sets of old!

Now we're talkin'! I'va always wanted a dragon like this. Sadly, it's gone.

Okay, so here's my rating

pieces: 11/10 because of the dragon
playability: 9/10
figs: 8/10 could be more alike
set dsign: 9/10
weapons: 7/10

Also, what's with the saddle on the side?

So one of the figs can ride a horse. You know, after the dragon gets to where it is going.

I recently acquired this set through Ebay (gotta love Ebay), and it is a really good set to get for parts, but the set wouldn't really work. First of all, you'd need a cooperative dragon and second, I think dragons are a little heavy for 2 horses to pull. This set is still a lot better than the KK2 stuff though

I always wanted this set when I was younger!

Looking back now though the whole thing is pretty weak, both in structure and design. Plus, what did they hope to do once they'd caught the dragon anyway? :?

Perhaps in their culture capturing a live dragon is like a right of passage, or a status symbol. Or maybe it's like capturing a wild horse to tame and use...
Or maybe dragon filee is reallllly tasty?

All sorts of stuff.

Oh no, I absolutely loved the inclusion of the dragon, I just wish Lego had gone all-out pure fantasy instead of just touching on it briefly. I liked the wizards from the Dragon Masters line too. :)

Oh, I wasn't implying you didn't like the dragons, (and I really like the wizards too, if not just for their peasant torsos) I just thought of some reasons why they capture dragons... who knows, maybe dragon is mighty good roasted or BBQed.
