The set design isn't the best, it has lots of BURPs and large castle wall pieces. I love the Dragon masters (I built a Dragon Master's Keep ), so I am a little biased. I like the figures, but the design is poor.
Figs: 8/10
Design: 3/10
Pieces: 5/10 (Has some very useful pieces, like the scroll piece)
Overall: 5/10

Not a particularly attractive set, it does come chock full of accessories that could be used to build an army, or stock an MOC. Overall, this set is not one that should be purchased for the model itself, but for the selection of pieces.

I remember I loved this set when I got it as a child. It was a great outpost size and was not to terribly expensive. Unfortunately I got bored of the box and threw it way, but I deffinately still have the blakc parts with the dragon designs on them. The red roof was also a great addition to my collection, as were the brown doors (a great size). I ended up with tons of Majistos and used them for peasents since I wa jsut a touch to young to buy the grey peasents, so that was great as well.
Looking back the set wasn't that great, but not horrible either, and IMO better than most KKII sets. The other basic parts weren't that bad either.
So, a perdy decent set, and great child-hood memories, not many things better...

Not a terrible set. Nice way to get some of the dragon-printed elements, like the wall panel and the arch.

I didn't get this one when it was new (right in the middle of my Dark Age), but I remember seeing it in the stores and thinking it was pretty cool. I got most of the pieces to this set on the bay, and it's got some great stuff. The dragon-emblem arch and wall are super cool, and the red turret canopy comes in handy also. I wish there were two of them, though.

I know that some of you like the dragon motif on the walls and arches, but I feel that it makes this set more applicable to the samurai/ninja sets and less the traditional castle theme, which I believe is more European. I never bought this set and I probably will never buy this set (ie on Ebay), as it does look very impressive.
Also I must admit that I am not a big fan of the Dragon Masters faction, which is probably a reason for not really liking this set. – Sorry to all you Dragon Masters fans.
But I do agree that it is a great army building set.

Hmm...set looks pretty good and it's price per piece ratio is pretty good. It's got some useful pieces and figs, but overall, it's kinda bland. 7/10

Hate is a strong word... But this set is very POOP dense, and both the colour scheme and design look jumbled and poorly thought-out. For me, it's the weakest of the Dragon Knights line. 6048 (Magical Workshop) and 6020 (Magic Shop) appeal to me more as settings for the ubiquitous Majisto (a name, incidentally, which annoys me almost as much as the KKII ones - probably because it makes him sound like a cheap conjuror playing at the end of the pier in a shabby seaside town); both 6082 (Fire-breathing Fortress) and 6076 (the BURP-tastic Dark Dragon's Den) develop the distinctive aesthetic of this faction much more clearly and successfully. At least, that's what I think.quaraga wrote:the castle is ok i dont get why you guys hate it
Re: Weekly Set Review: Magic Castle Box
I can understand why many people don't like this set... the DM sets in general were full of LURPs and BURPs and every other acronym you can think of that made for a weaker set than we were all used to.
For me, I do like this set because the DM have a bit of an appeal to me - I like the heraldry, the designs in the brick (reminds me of some of the Lone Wolf books I used to read as a kid), and the figs. Also, these dudes were the first to be flying dragons.
I like this set - I'd like to buy one or two for the parts and figs... but yes, it does have a lot of building pieces that are not my favorite~

Re: Weekly Set Review: Magic Castle Box
I was really excited to get this set when it came out. I was an adult and I had missed all the Crusader/Falcon era sets myself and was pretty eager to get some castle sets. I had already gotten the larger Dragon Masters Fire Breathing Fortress and I found that this set made a good gatehouse for the design. It has a few gaps in it's construction style, a little charm in windowed tower, but it was a good start for a Castle collection. Most LEGO in those days was seemingly intended for the builder to expand on, so my expectations were met well by this set.
