9376 LEGO DACTA Castle Set

Post by Loneranger »

I was searching for some a part on peeron, and to my amazment.

I found this.

http://guide.lugnet.com/set/9376

I would have bought four of these. not only is it a parts pack, but a minifig pack too.

But how come I have neither scene or heard of this DACTA set?

I would guess you never heard about it because its DACTA.

I could be wrong, but my understanding was that DACTA was a sort of education-related them, made available to the schools, as opposed to the general consumers.

Of course, it could just be that this was never available in North America.

I know that I had never seen or heard of this until I started browsing Lugnet's set guide.

I know DACTA has a website, does anyone have a link? That set rocks! Wish I got 1 or 2.

Holy Mega Bloks! I would've bought quite a few of these as well. At LEGOLand CA they sell the Educational Packages stuff in the big shop, and out of the stuff I've seen, all the stuff can also be purchased via S@H.

I've seen this set before, although I forget where. It was quite a long time ago...

DACTA was the educational branch of the company. I'm not sure if it's still avtive under that name. A teacher of mine, who I know extremely well and am friends with has a few DACTA sets for his kids. I'm not sure where he got them, they're fairly old.

At one time, these were available from LLCA. It is one big brown box with a label on it. Nice set for parts. There are many cool sets in the Dacta line. That line is aimed at the educational market.

You have not noticed the prices, have you?

DACTA is an extremeley high-priced (I'd dare saying "expensive") line. And because those sets are not sold at any K*Mart, Wal*Mart, Target or Toys'R'Us there are never bargain offers of these sets.

I wasn't too impressed with the parts selection. And the models suggested in the instructions are not exactly great. At the end of the day it's just an expensive Fright Knights parts pack with some additional Royal Knights figs.

P.S.:
No, Ben, I won't assemble all the models and take pics. They ain't worth it. And there is no main model.
This is just the sort of nonsense up with which I will not put.

I used to do quite well on BL selling ghosts for .70 each and then keeping the skeletons for myself. Unfortunately, a very large store figured this out and I have no wish to compete with their prices.

That set is really good for the skeletons. Not sure What to do with all the ghosts though...

And the blue 32x32 is still alive!

THis is a veritable treasure bin, especially considering the offerings we're getting most places from TLC....

If I ever need skeletons and ghosts, I know where to go.
