wow...

that lego set looks frightingly similiar to this playmobil one - http://www.collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3150.htm.

I guess they are copying from each other on some level... but still... I don't care! And... I think lego will do it better! :-)

Well if lego makes sets with similar setups (longboat, long house cart and so forth) they will be pretty decent IMO. We could get new helms and they will let you make a village navy and what not for viking conquest of the lego world. I cant wait. I hope we get some more solid info soon.

Yea that's a really good point...

and... I think that they would go along well with the black falcons, for some reason... just the whole nordic thing goin on...

Man... after all of this... I'm gonna be really annoyed if it's a false alarm!!

Duh, of course its going to look similar to the playmobil one! If both companies are basing their models of real hisorical things, it should be assumed they will look similar!

IMO, the sail is better on the LEGO version, we've got enough crappy striped sails!

Neither Lego nor Playmobil are copying from one another. They're sets look similiar because both themes are based on VIKING culture. So obviously a Lego Viking Longboat will look similar to a Playmobil Viking Longboat (because) both sets and designs are inspired from a Viking Longboat. Yeesh!

But the Lego Vikings have a dragon on their sails whereas Playmobil Viking sails look similar to the red & white striped sails of the Black Seas Baracuda pirate ship.

I don't have a problem with striped sails, simply because I don't have any, from what I read that dragon on the sail is a little too detailed in comparison to real life ones.

Hello!

Of course LEGO is copying Playmobil here. The Playmo Vikings are an huge success, so LEGO, a company currently not so well off, does very good when copying this successful concept.

By the way both companies used to copy from each other as long as they existed. Playmobil copied the concept "system toy", LEGO copied Castle, Pirates, now Vikings, Playmo copied Space, Adventurers, Fairy Tale. The two are the biggest European toy companies, it's not a surprise they spy on each other... And I'm glad LEGO copies the good things from Playmo, not only the medium to not-so-good things from MegaBloks.

Maybe they dont exactly spie on each other. Maybe they have some sorta deal between them. I hope they get some decent pics up soon. I have some great hopes for theses sets, but I am trying not to let my imagination get the best of me because then I will be disappointed if it isnt what I thought it would be. What kinda new stuff do you think they may have?

When those clearer pics comes... you'll see that they (Lego Vikings) are System scale.

OK, this is how I learned of this:

Lenny: Have you seen the new Viking ship?
Me: No, link?
Lenny:  You're kidding, right?
Me: Nope <long explantion on why I was so behind on the times>
Lenny: check this out: <links me here>
Me: HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lenny: lol
Me: WOW WOW WOW WOW
Lenny: hehehe
Me: THAT IS AWESOME!
Lenny: yeah

--------------------------------

Ok, here are my thoughts:

This totally rocks! I've been wanting a Viking theme for years, and at last there is one! 8)

Looking at the pic, I can detect:

Horned helmets. Could this be a new part or or this part printed?: http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/x175
Blue cloak
4 (8?) Big oars in black and red
5 (10?) Printed 3x3 radar dishes
One heck of a ballista
Somewhere between 4 and 8 figs
Two types of clothes, one a sail and one a cover
The BEST HULL PIECE EVER!!!

I hope the hull comes in two types: front/back and center, that way we can make any length of longboat.

I am certain that this is in minifig scale, if this isn't a false alarm *crosses fingers*

I checked a medieval book. A set TLC will most likely put out would most likely be a "thoreg" or somthing like that. Anyway its a longboat designed for 4or5 people.

According to Jan Beyer (the German Jake McKee) who attended the 1000steine-Meeting in Frechen last weekend, the Vikings are minifig scale.

Swwweeeeeettttt..... :-)

If Lego really changes it's lines for the better (like this), maybe the AFOLs can keep their ship afloat! ;-)

So far, I'd heard all the arguments for and against (including the, I have a million minifigs therefore I know fig scale better than you do yadda yadda) - and I was still sure it was Jack Stone (set yourself up for disappointed and be pleasantly suprised). But this was the first piece of evidence that really convinces me.

Thanks for sharing
