These Viking sets look pretty awesome minus a few of the goofy looking bionicle monsters.

My favorite part is LEGO is quite possibly making chrome armor?

^looks like a few of the shadow knights have chrome armor in that set too. That is amazing if they are.

Do you think if you brasso off the chrome it will be transparent? Haha, I don't suggest trying.

heh heh heh... you might have just beaten me to in posting about this... but I think I do see some chrome helmets and armor on some of the vikings? What do you think?

Excuse the pixelation! I'm away from my main computer and have only MS Paint (which I don't know how to use well) on hand... but looks like chrome, no?

They look a bit MBish with the complex battle hammers and axes and the Bionicle elements are rather tragic, but otherwise this is the best I think we've seen from Lego in a long time.

Its on now!! I don't care about storylines. Screw Vladrek. KK2 is getting invaded by Vikings!!!

I think the Vikings will win as well. I love that weird..dragon..monster...golem... thing against the Viking Fortress. I'll definatley buy the set with the dragon, the viking fortress and the longboat. OMG...

I LOVE YOU LEGO!!!!

This is what we all needed after some dissapointments. And Vikings are still very much castle.

Ok, I was quite impressed with the new KK2 stuff. It was a step in the right direction. As some people pointed out though, it was better, but could have been better still. These sets have got me a lot more excited (though). Probably a lot more excited than a grown man should be over a toy :)
Leaving aside the creatures for the moment, apart from the odd bionicle piece which still look out of place to me on a lego set, the set design looks pretty cool. It's a step away from the fantasy elements of KK which is good, mythology sits much better with Classic Castle than fantasy power swords. Some of the new pieces look a little to detailed rather than stylized like lego should be, the metallic effects being a case in point, I'll get over that (though). If Viking had been a theme in the late 80's, yes I'd probably have liked the sets more, and been dissapointed with the new ones, but as there is no previous frame of reference and thats just being picky :) With the new castle sets we have a frame of reference of the old sets to measure the new against, a new theme and we don't have that which is a good thing. I would have been horrified to see that amount of bionicle in a castle set (we call it "Lego And Bionicle Intergrated Assembly" here in the UK) mixed with classic pieces. Here it dosen't bother me, and I even like some of the beasts. The dragon is cool, the wolf looks good and the serpent looks very good. So we have some nice looking new sets, some interesting new pieces and some great looking (at this distance at least) generic viking figs.
Yay! go Lego (although Im sure the fortified harbour would look better in old grey

Since the sets won't be released till August, Lego has plenty of time to improve on them.
Im hoping that the Vikings will have an enemy to fight besides large creatures.
I also noticed that the Viking Fortress is built on water & comes with a small boat. (sort of a guarded harbor type fortress) That bionicle thing (with the Viking Fortress)obviously isn't a Dragon as it states.(it looks like a Giant ?with a mace) Im sure lego will change some of the set names before release.

Hello!

Hehe, do you really believe they will remove the Bionicle parts just because WE do not like them? Their mission is to prove that all LEGO can be combined with all LEGO, thus every set contains Bionicle parts in order to prove they are necessary and important.

Im hoping that the Vikings will have an enemy to fight besides large creatures.
They can fight any Castle you already possess. And LEGO even has (sort of) castles in their current assortment.

Im sure lego will change some of the set names before release.
Why should they do that?

Why do you say that? You don't trust on LEGO quality anymore?

I saw the pics again, and it seems to me that everything fits fine...

I think the new weapons are a bit oversized like most new minifig accessories. That is a bit disappointing. The helms don't seem as bad, but they don't seem as compact and form-fitting as the helmets of old.

I like the flat round shields some of the minifigs are holding, especially the black and gold design. Too bad they seem a bit scarce.

I don't care for all of the bionicle parts. Are they trying to purge surplus junk from their warehouse and use up some molds, or are they trying to make us like them?

The longship / midgard snake seems like the best set. If it's priced right, I will buy several of them.

I do not like the catapult / dragon set at all. I don't know if Vikings even really used catapults much, but it's rather ridiculous of TLC to try putting catapults everywhere that they do not belong lately. (versus dragons, versus mounted knights, on horseback, right beside hidden outlaw hideouts, etc)

Not liking how red the new brown fortress looks in the pics.

I really like the beard parts, but I may take that back when I see them in person. Right now, I think they will be awesome.

The printed radar dishes look great as a design element on the sets, and I'm glad they aren't used for minifig shields.

I really want to get a better look at the minifig torsos.

It looks like the viking horns are also used as teeth on the snake.

It seems like this product line introduced a whole mess of new parts. They seem like decent parts overall, but I still think TLC is making more new parts than they need to. Unless they plan to keep vikings around for a few years, it is just wasteful to make so many new molds. I liked the old days when they weren't averaging more than one new mold per set.

This is not as good as the Castle of old, but it looks to be the best new theme or sub-theme in a dozen years. However, I dislike how it continues the recent trend of small stand-alone themes. Yes, it can easily be mixed with Castle, but TLC doesn't seem interested in helping on that front. This is humans versus monsters from mythology. That is very cool, but it also locks vikings into being a stand-alone theme. Eventually TLC will run out of new contraptions and monsters to build.

Still, despite my complaints, I like these far more than I like KK2. I will save most of my LEGO money this year for Vikings when they are available. I'll buy them, I'll probably like them, but I will still yearn for the year after year continuation of themes that we had in the old days.

Doesn't seem to me the same piece. I think the snake teeth is a thiner piece, and more sharp.

According to some book I read at the library, the vikings beseiged Paris with catapults and seige towers.
