The picture was resized. I don't think it is gona look messy like that, the reflection makes it look dirty since the picture was resized.

I'm not so sure about that. Have you seen the new Viking pics? It seems Lego has gone to a new type of chrome. I think its being called burnished metal? The picture was resized. I don't think it is gona look messy like that, the reflection makes it look dirty since the picture was resized.

I'm all for chrome and/or silver armor and helmets, but I'm really not digging this 'rough' look. I don't think it's just the photo, since every picture I've seen of the new sets(KK2 and Vikings) had that look. But, I'll wait til I see it in person to really evaluate it. Who knows? It might turn out awesome...

I'm no expert, so don't take my word on it.
But in my experience, chromed plastic with this 'rough' look seems to last longer and doesn't flake off as bad. Perhaps LEGO has changed to this form of vacuum metalizing to make their chrome pieces last longer. After all, how many chrome swords have you owned that the handle started sluffing its' chrome as soon as you put it in a fig's hand?
I, for one, welcome our new shiney but rough looking chrome overlords.

I'm pretty sure that we are getting the textured chrome, rather than the older chrome that we all know and love. I'm not too broken up about this, because I like the new finish too.
However, I'm not terribly thrilled at the prospect of getting two Johnny Thunder heads with Vladek's fortress. I can easily switch the heads, but I still wish they hadn't used such an obnoxious one.

That's a very compelling point. I'll just have to wait and see how well they look with my castle figs.SavaTheAggie wrote:But in my experience, chromed plastic with this 'rough' look seems to last longer and doesn't flake off as bad. It seems like two different styles. The KK2.2 looks like automotive "metalflake", while the Vikings has more of a mottled look. While the metalflake may be better (or worse) considered on it's merits, it doesn't match any of the old "chrome" pieces.

To me, it doesn't look like the vikings, but like it has a texture to it. I think the black bits we are seeing is nothing more than shadow. The Euro armour is great, but I'm most happy about the flared helms being used in sets again.

I'm gonna go a bit out on a limb here and say that I like this armor and the new design (1-because the image may or may not be accurate and 2. because most people don't seem to be fans of this armor).
It kind of reminds me of the rustic yet shiny armor of the Conan movies...

I really like the new chrome armor. For one, at the very least, it's not purple, or red, or some other ridiculous color. And another reason: most knights did not polish their armor; it rusted quicker if they did. So, while it may not be quite as pitted as the new armor seems to be, I think it is going to be more realistic. My last reason is this: I'm really hoping that the new chrome is more durable than the old stuff. In fact, if there would be no other reason to like the Vikings line, I would still look forward to it for the new helmets and armor.
