Copied from my post in this thread:
The more I look at those mottled mettalic pieces, the more it looks like silver paint spattered on black pieces. Some(such as the Euro armor) have a heavy spattering, and are almost completely silver, and others(such as the axe) are not as heavily spattered, and hence appear more black. Notice the boulder here. It definately seems to sustain this theory.

It's possible that the method used to color these pieces doesn't achieve the same result everytime. One piece might be almost completely silver, while another piece of the same type may be mainly black with silver spots. Maybe that's why we're seeing color variation from piece to piece.

Whatever method is being used, it just doesn't look right. I didn't mind the flat silver used in 7239 (City Firetruck), but I don't think this new speckled look fits well with the LEGO aesthetic. It seems odd that the gold Viking helmet doesn't use this speckling process. It actually looks like its pearl gold, though I may be mistaken.doctorsparkles wrote:It's possible that the method used to color these pieces doesn't achieve the same result everytime. I think David might have a the right idea here. Those could well be only sprayed-over prototypes just to get the look rather than the finished mass produced product.David85 wrote:I think you might be right. It isn't new chrome, and I doubt it's new new chrome, so I think you are right.
Of course these are prototype sets, so Lego might have just sprayed them quickly, like they did with the dark green on the latest train set.

No those are not "Rogue Knights". The silver guys are Vladek's Elite Shadow Knights who guard his dark fortress.

Paint won't get the level of reflectivity that these pieces have. I sincerely doubt that they have been spray-painted.JPinoy wrote:I think David might have a the right idea here. Those could well be only sprayed-over prototypes just to get the look rather than the finished mass produced product.
