*agrees*

Lego simply cannot build sets to the quality we expect them. How many Lego company models actually are of MOC quality? A very very few. These sets are not perfect. What's the fun in getting a "perfect" Lego set? What can you do with it? Look at it? Fine for collectors, but...I want a set that makes me want to rebuild it. Isn't that what Lego's all about, after all? Taking the sets apart to build something new, and better? C'mon people, show some optimism. :D

At last, someone with some sense!
All I care about is the hull, the rigging and the sails. I plan on making the rest of the ship my own. Also, it seems that people are forgetting about the awesome sea monster that comes with this set.

Right on Nathan! I was thinking the exact same thing. These sets have some issues with Bionicle, but other than that, they are for the most part perfect.

I think that one catapult is really cool. I'm looking forward to getting some of the Harry Potter sets just for the pieces.

My wallet is CERTAINLY going to be as empty as an abbandoned cave this summer-fall.

I would very much disagree with this statement. Leaving aside any reminescing about golden ages we could just look at the last couple of years for some really awesome sets. Ignoring arguments over color and simply looking at set design, here are just a few examples: 4855, Spider-Man's Train Rescue, 4753, Sirius Black's Escape, 4500, Rebel Snowspeeder, 8375, Ferarri Pit Stop. And those are keeping to mid-range prices. Of course there are builders here who could top any of those sets, but each of those is great both in original design and as a basis for future building, staying within the limitations of a mass-produced mid-range set.
I was over-harsh in my statement earlier that I'd given up on TLC for set designs, and I apologize to them for that. I suppose it would be much better to say that I see all sets as MOCfodder, so design is not really something I'm looking for.

I'm saddened by everyone's complaining here. I've come to the conclusion that most AFOLs can not be satisfied by anything, not matter how hard TLC tries. I don't see what is wrong with Vikings, other than the few Bionicle pieces. Wierd siege weapons? Pop em off and use the part elsewhere. So-so set design? Rebuild it. Mediocre figs? Hello, that's what stickers are for people!
I am sorry that these complaints offend you, but I think it is incorrect to say that AFOLs can't be satisfied by anything. I think many people are just dissapointed by the limited play-options provided by many of the 2005 sets. That certainly doesn't mean that they dislike everything LEGO does. Personally, I really liked sets such as 8375 and 4507. This year I am really looking forward to picking up 7249, 7239, and 8654. These sets are well designed, and include a great assortment of bricks. This is something that the Vikings and KK2 lines lack.

Also, many fans don't like to modify their bricks (including minifigs), so torso stickers aren't an option :( .
TLC makes sets, not models. It's our job to make models. Sets simply provide parts and ideas. Be honest, has there been any one set perfect enough simply to keep together? Aside from collector's models, I think the answer would be no.
Most of these sets lack the basic bricks necessary for building alternate models. With so many specialized elements, a LEGO fan who doesn't have a large collection of basic bricks can't build much of anything these days. Simply put, lines such as KK2 or Vikings don't provide the bricks necessary to create new or interesting MOCs.

I appologize if my comments offend you, but I feel that the 2005 line (particularly, KK2, Vikings and Harry Potter) are somewhat dissapointing.

I just realized something. I need alot of money to appease myself. Star Wars is always great to have for the pieces alone, so I'll need some of those. Then i'll need a few KK2. I'm glad probably no HP or Vikings til Aug. I need time to acquire more funds hehe.

Well, here's my take on the Vikings now that I've studied the pictures some more.

The Vikings could be better. The fort needs more than just an outside wall and the catapult thingy should get lost to be in keeping with Vikings. The longboat could at least include a few more basic bricks or an opposing soldier or two. BUT, this is the only the bad part; just wait until you hear the good!

We get some great versatile-for-castle-use torsos. There is at least one new style of weapon (the axe) and it's really a great design, allowing for customization while keeping the purists happy. Then there's the new helmet design, in two different colors from the get-go, and we can get euro armor in a sensible and new color (and great, I would add) without having to buy KKII sets. And even though we could wish for more parts, think about the parts that do come; I really don't think that there are any, or very few, parts that will be even close to useless other than the binicle parts; we'll see about this with the sets in hand. At any rate, think about what the Castler would get without the Viking sets; KKII and Harry Potter. KKII has too many really dumb and/or juniorized parts for my taste, and the taste of a lot of others, I expect. Harry Potter has good parts as well, maybe even better than KKII, but it has the peach heads and hands and it doesn't have the new armor (in case you haven't noticed by now, I'm really big on the armor. I only have one piece, so that may be why; I never had a chance to buy the sets originally that had armor in and now they're mostly to expensive).

SO, I am very optimistic about the Vikings. My wallet shall suffer...

Allow me to point out that LEGO didn't really design any of those. Each is based on someone else's design. Not a single one is original in design - they are all LEGO interpretations of existing designs.

Which, I suppose, is just being argumentative for argumentation's sake, since I think they are all good sets. 8)

I think the Vikings sets can be improved even within the limitations of part count, price point, etc. But I think they give me enough of what I want to go from there.
