New Set (G678)
Just a mention: Keychains aren't glued - they are held together by a screw. The screw can be removed with minimal damage to the fig.
My guess is that torso is glue to hips, but legs, arms, and head can be moved. Hopefully helmets and heads are removeable, but we'll see.
Still, this is a cool new set. Can't wait to see Jojo's review of it!

I edited my post a few minutes ago, so you must have been right in the middle of typing yours at the time. I went back and noticed the edges of the baseplate, so you're right, the squares ARE on a baseplate (and I figure they'd have to be, anyhow, 'cause I can't imagine how they'd keep the black and white squares together otherwise.) Still, looking at the box shot with the front flap open, it shows the board already assembled. There've have been sets where figs have come pre-assembled, but none that I can recall where anything as large ad a board like this has. That makes me more inclined to believe that the board is not just pre-assembled, it's glued. I just don't see LEGO taking the time to stick a bunch of black and white plates to a baseplate in their factory if they're NOT gonna' glue them down and make the board a single piece.Blueandwhite wrote:Count Blockula wrote:Maybe the board is glued together and considered a single piece. I don't see the edges of a large baseplate or anything underneath the black and white squares in any of the pics. A solid board would kinda' make sense, too, I think.
I truly wish that was the case, but look closely at the upscaled image. The 4x4 plates are clearly distinct from the baseplate. Zoom in as close as possible on the bottom right hand corner. You'll notice that the black plate hanges slightly over the rounded edge of what appears to be a white baseplate. So far, all evidence points to these minifigs being single-piece items akin to the keychains.
A minifig is just made of too many pieces to account for the 167 piece-count. Unless that number is incorrect, I believe that these minifigs are a single piece.
Castles are kinda' like big, non-electrical stone spaceships that don't fly. Plus, you can stick your head out the window and breathe, and your eyeballs won't explode.

Still iffy to me... I get:
Pawns: 4 pieces
Rooks: 8 pieces
Knights: 4 pieces
Bishops: 5 or 6 pieces
Queens: 6 or 7 pieces
Kings: 5 or 6 pieces
So, not including the base, that'd be 154 - 162 pieces. (Depends on whether or not you count visors and capes, I know heads aren't counted as seperate pieces) The bases would be 65 pieces, so that'd mean 219-227 pieces total, assuming nothing is glued at all.
So, if 167 is correct, then ... SOMETHING's glued. If the board is glued, then the minifgs probably aren't. If the board ISN'T glued, then something's wrong. 65 board piecs + 32 figure pieces does NOT equal 167 pieces. So no matter what, SOME pieces aren't glued in the figures, again, assuming that 167 pieces means what we think it means. I wouldn't actually count on that, myself.
At this point, I'd say we can only wait for confirmation. Something's obviously awry with that piece count.
BTW, it looks like the crossbows aren't the same color as the minifigs or their helmets. My suspicion is that these *aren't* ABS, just like the KK2 swords.
And, it looked to me like the baseplate was white in that super-zoom picture. But other people were saying it was another color? Where does it look like it's something else?

Hey Dave,
I had assumed it was light blay, but you're right. Zoom in on the front blue rook and you can easily see the contrast between the blay piece and the white plates and baseplate.
There is the white 16x32 baseplate, btw, in the snowboarding set and a couple of others:

Wow... an off handed comment in an IM message about the possibility that maybe I recalled a discussion that these might be glued... and three pages of comments later...
Heh... I'm looking into this now, and as soon as I have an actual answer, I'll be sure to share it.

I have to make this short, I'm at work and shouldn't be posting at all.
It was an off handed comment, and I must apologize to Jake and to the rest of the community. I became excited (in a bad way) upon learning of the possibility of glue, and I most likely should have kept it all to myself until we knew for sure.
Perhaps I'm in the wrong job here.

Go, Jake, Go! (While you're at it, could you also look into a rumor I heard about a possible LEGO Checkers Set? Supposedly, it’s gonna’ use Bionicle throwing discs as the pieces.)Sink wrote:Wow... an off handed comment in an IM message about the possibility that maybe I recalled a discussion that these might be glued... and three pages of comments later...

I'm assuming this was meant for me... I know about the other white plates (Ice planet, everest, etc) but ever since my time in Canada I have always wanted to do a snow scape... and white baseplates aren't that common...
Thanks for the thought and God Bless,
Nathan

You might also want to check out the fortress from the recent Alpha Team. It has a raised white baseplate and those ice burps.Norro wrote:I'm assuming this was meant for me... Heehee. You mean you don't expect that from us by now? We do tend to be a rabid bunch. BTW, the whole glue speculation has spread to FBTB, Lugnet, and Eurobricks as well.Jake wrote:Wow... an off handed comment in an IM message about the possibility that maybe I recalled a discussion that these might be glued... and three pages of comments later...

Yeah, nice goin’, Jake – spreading rumors all over the internet about glued minifigs…yeesh. *kicks Jake in the shin* Hey…wha…? My foot’s stuck! Is this…? It is! GLUE! Soooo, YOU'RE the culprit who’s been gluing all my toys together?! Mr. McKee, you are a sneaky one. Were you messing with my keychain’s, too? King Leo’s been asking me to remove the hip piece from his torso, but I have to keep telling him, “sorry, bub, you’re stuck wearin’ black underpants FOREVER!” (Sneaky!)Bruce N H wrote:Heehee. [Nevermind why King Leo’s asking me to remove his underpants. What happens in Knights Kingdom, stays in Knights Kingdom!]
