Join the weekly Classic Castle set review discussion. Please post your opinions on the set play ability, piece selection, design, etc. Which sets stand up to our catapult of critique and which ones crumble in shame!

This week’s set is 1680 Crusader's Cart.

1680 Crusader's Cart was released in 1990 to the United Kingdom, Australia, and possibly other countries. This was a more rare version of set 1877 and included an extra forestman with a red collar. 1877 Crusaders Cart was released in North America as part of a variety pack of sets.

The cart carries hay and has a secret compartment to hide a forestman. Three forestmen, a saddle, a pitchfork, a whip, and various weapons are included.

Note: We previously reviewed 1877 Crusader's Cart, but this is another set, although extremely similar

Hello!

I like this set. It's a nice brickbuilt cart. And it's even better than 1877 in that it comes with one man more. (I hear the "Army builder" choir already....).

Three forestmen that can easily can be used as peasants, a round shield and a pitchfork- not to mention THREE figs for a wagon this big. Holy smoking mosquito tantrum elites! The horse can either be used to drag the wagon or be mounted- wowee! The only plus that is missing would be a brown horse instead. :)

I happen to like this set although I do not own it. It has been mentioned before but 3 minfigs, a scarce round shield and an even scarcer pitchfork all included in one set. Question is if the brown horses were available at the time this set was released. Most likely they were, since the 6085 Black Monarch's Castle from 1988 has one included. A white horse is just as good to pull the wagon though.

The forestmen and peasants from the late 1980s are among my favourite factions. A true classic with lots of alternative ways to use it. I give it an 8 out of 10.

Sweet set. Great pieces! Who can argue with a round shield and a rake! Not to mention 3 forestmen.

LEGO... what have you become?

Nay. I do not make Forestman armies, hence this cannot be an "army-builder".

All the same, a nice, cheap, source of three Forestman figs, with a good little cart, as well as a round shield and a pitchfork. And a saddle for the horse- a good and wise decision that all sets with horses should follow, although it DOES tempt me to have all my horse ridden, and none pulling waggons, etc.

Parts: 8/10
Playability: 8/10
Figs/Accessories: 8/10
Design (then): 7.5/10
Design (now): 8/10
Nostalgia: 7/10

Overall Score: 7.75/10

This was my very first Castle set. I still have the horse from this set as well as the minifig torsos, shield, and saddle.

I think its hard for me to rate the forestmen sets anything less than 9 - I guess I just have some kind of unfair bias that will never die for this faction.

Good figs, nice cart (made of many pieces), 3 great figs and a pitchfork to boot. Gotta love it for any castle scene, be it village or farm or forest hideout.

9/10 8)

Once I coincidentally saw this set at eBay. It was the beginning for my hunt after the us-only-sets. I don't knew that LEGO released in other countries other sets than in germany.

It was an expensive hunt, but I don't repent anything.

I think this is a great set, not only for parts and those in the singing chorus groups, but because it has some life to it. The design with one fig hiding in the cart hints at a great classic story line, but doesn't lock you into anything. I really like the forestmen, so would buy it just for that. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a spate of re-releases from the simple classic sets :D
Cheers,

Rare pitchfork and round shield, three forestmen figs, and a cart worthy of any peasant/farm scene. So what's not to like?

Well, the size of the cart makes me wish it was a four wheeler instead of a two, but be that as it may: 9/10.

My second Castle set, and only Forestmen set. I love it. It has everything. 'Nuff said.
