Join the weekly Classic Castle set review discussion. Please post your opinions on the set play ability, piece selection, design, etc. Which sets stand up to our catapult of critique and which ones crumble in shame!

This week’s set is 6034 Black Monarch’s Ghost.

Black Monarch’s Ghost, released in 1990, is a modular wall section that attaches to the Black Monarch’s Castle. The set includes a fully armed Dragon Knight and a glow in the dark ghost hiding behind doors in the wall.

I like it, a nice little set. I wish I had bought more. I always need more of those doors, black heads are always useful, and a fully armored knight!

I had bought a couple of these at the time they were out. Given recent offerings, even with the ghost and piles of doors, I would buy a WHOLE LOT MORE than I did. Armoured (dark grey) knight "place drooling emoticon here"!

this is where most of my knights came from - my kid cousins loved the glow in the dark ghost, i got a bunch of stuff for my castles and some great knights...

My first castle set. And in my opinion it is the best. What more could you want, nice and simple. Knight, mini building, and ghost. You can have a litte adventure with this set.

I only had one and almost all is lost. I have the ghost the visor. 'My character' sports that visor in his honor.

I love this,

DM

P.S. Anyone know why there is a feather plume instead of the Dragon ones? and is that the Black Monarch?

This was a fun little set. I had been blessed with the compulsion to buy a few of them when they came out. I have never regretted that decision, I wish I had more money at the time though, my paltry 9 would have been much more... I think this set would sell very well even in today's "video game generation". My son saw this set just now while I was writing this post and asked me to get him it. I think I will build it for him... Overall i give it an 8/10, but if I compare it to 2004 offerings, I'd have to give it a 10/10.

One of the first castle sets in my and mi sister's collection. Lots of nostalgia, nice ghost, nice knight, and nice doors. Good design. 9/10.

Wonderful little set, great parts, excellent minifig. Wish I got this set when it first came out. Now I gotta browse around on the secondary market...

The first set of the year back then I bought.

I especially liked how the set was included in the catalogue-scene: The ghost scared some knights away :-)

For a standalone pretty poor, but a nice addition to your castles or when you built up a hill in/with your bed and played it to be a secret cave ... *sight

It was the first set imo in that special constellation: One or two Minifigs in a little scenery including two 3x3x6-castlewall-corners.

The perfect item for nagging kids their parents ;-)

9/10

I bought that set when it just came out in 1990.
The truth I was very disappointed back then. It was one of the two last sets I bought before I entered my Dark Ages (of LEGO) for the next 5 years. I was regreting that I bought it and not spending the money on something better.

Why? I guess the structure is pretty lame, it was suppose to be an extension to 6085 on one hand, and on the other hand it didn't fit, it was a one brick and a plate smaller then the real castle, and also they stuck a lance on one of the sides. It is still I think one of the smallest structure for castle's TLC ever designed.

So why did I bought it on the first place? on 1990 the Ghost was a new minifig and the only other set that included him that year was 6081 which I couldn't afford of course. Also it had a full knight (the new knights kind that started again only in 1990 and there were only 5 sets back then with it when 6034 the smallest). If you are looking only for the knight I guess 6009 is much more a better deal but it came out only in 1992. Also it had 2 corner black walls and 2 doors which are very usefull as you all said.

To sum up: the set as a structure really useless and ugly (5/10) however the bricks there as bricks are excellent (10/10) so I guess we got (8/10)

Hello!

This is a not too bad set. When it came out I had to have this ghost and this armoured knight! The little building is quite pointless, though the rounded-top doors are always welcome.

The dragon plumes first came out in 1992 while this set was released already in 1990.
According to the American name of the set I'd say the ghost is the black monarch. The monarch was black, black is not only beautiful but also considered evil, so the evil monarch couldn't find rest when he died...

Well ...

Regarding the name, I thougt it's the Black Monarch's Ghost as belonging to the Black Monarch's Castle.

Nice little set! A great army builder, with a fully armored knight and horse. Their's always a way to use a ghost, and their is never enough of those doors in my collection!
