"Best" in what sense? Best at....? Looking? Effective in reality? Best at carrying into battle? Best because of practical applications? Best........

I like the Katana because it looks the most like the real weapon - I like Jeff's Little Armory weapons for the same reason. But the sword is going to win because of its mystique. A sword is a specific fighting weapon with virtually no other use. It's something you could reasonably carry with you - just as you probably wouldn't walk around lugging a rifle with you in the American West but you would a handgun, you wouldn't lug around a halbard (also halberd, halbert, halbart, and knowing medieval naming non-conventions, there are more) except for a specific campaign.

From the standpoint of an actual battle, though, a sword is really just a secondary weapon. A halbard was one of the great success stories (if killing people can be called a success). Considering the profusion of pole-arm designs, it was the closest to a "winning" design other than the pike. In a time when everything was designed to cause horrific wounds, the halbard stood out enough to receive special mention for the dreadful nature of the damage it did. I love to have units armed with this. The only trouble is that the earlier version was too small and more of a great axe in design, and the latter was a bit too large and heavy looking.

Well, I haven't tried it yet, but you could trim the blade on the large one back a little and cut a little bit off of the end of the handle. You could also try filing other parts of it down a little to make a less bulky appearance.

Well don't stone me but I voted for the long, shiny, greatsword. I like the intimidating nature of it. It belongs to the most elite knights and swords men in my kingdom. I hate the gold version of it though becuase gold is too weak a metal to forge swords but... The only flaw with the sword is that the paint chips off of it and it looks really ugly. But as long as you take good care of it its fine.

And I agree with TTKnight, the Katana is the most historically accurate. I love that too.

I'd take the crossbow before the bow just becuase its more efficient in battle and doesn't always need a quiver.

For a practical purpose its the spear. Not everone in the middle ages could afford swords. But soears could be homemade. Just sharpen a stick! Great for rebellious peasant armies.

Hello!

I like the broad sword. I also like the bow for its ellegance, though it's not the weapon for those who want to become heores. For some reasonm I also like the Katana very much. Maybe because it also looks very elegant.

I do not like the silver long sword. It's simply too long for a single minifig. It's meant to be two-handed, but how are minifigs supposed to handle it two-handed? This long sword is Belville...

LOL indeed!

On the sword issue itself - none of these weapons are
correctly scaled to the minifig anyway. If they were, they
would be alot smaller. Too small imo, to even resemble
anything worthwhile...and too small for kids.

This is why they are larger, but we already know this.
I made my two-handed "flamberg" purposely large to
follow the same thinking - it's an exaggerated scale.

As with minifigs holding thing with two hands...
You'll just have to wait and see.

Great fight, jojo!
and I myself have a second opinion...
It has changed in my opinion. I now think the Katana blade is the best lego weapon, by a sprint.

I voted the broad sword because:
1) I think it's agood all-around weapon
2) I own alot of them :)

I also like the spear.

LOL Jojo. You should have entered that in the "heroes and villains" category of the contest.

to Jojo: hehehehe

well to be frank sword is probably the best single men weapon. It's really to symbol of the medieval ages.
For an whole army I think there isn't really one better weapon then other. All got their advantages and disadvantages. Maybe a two handed sword is better then the regular one for example but you can't really use a shield and it's much heavier. Bows, crossbows and spears got their long range, lances are great for horseback riders and so on and on...

So as I said regular swords...
