Favorite Shield
Favorite Shield
Ok, guys, here's a poll on which shape of LEGO shield you like best. I like the oval shield the best of what I have seen because it has very realistic posing possibilities (I haven't seen any round shields yet, though, except in pics). And I just think it looks neat. Tell me what you think.

Round shields are my favorite. They are great for a footsoldier or barbarians. Now if LEGO would only make brown ones with printed Viking emblems on them
My next favorite is triangular. I especially like the shields from 375, 383, and 677 because they are more traditional shields and each knight has his own emblem.

Now how come I knew you would say something like that?Dragon Master wrote:All sheilds look better with Dragons on them
I like the tri shield the best. Most of the best designs are on them, and they look good to. However, I am not entirely abandoning the oval sheild either. I find that they look good when you have your infantry in a line and in formation. What will be even better are those new KK shields that are coming out provided that they are not cardbord. But then, you'll have a Roman looking army.
Oh well, I better stop with my useless rambling

I voted triangular (heater) shield because it is the most useful all around. The ovoid (kite) follows in second, as it makes a rather "large" infantry shield, but is perfect for calvary (protects the leg). I would like the round ones for my axe men (small axes) to carry, as they would be kind of berserker like in appearance.

I voted for other. My favorite shield is the the 3 x 3 round with the oriental printing from the Scorpion Palace. Sure I wouldn't use it for my whole army, but I really like the way it was done. My second choice is the round space shield, I have always wanted great numbers of these, but again it could be the rarity of the shield that makes me like it so much.

Again, I'll have to vote on my shield. Yes, yes, yes...before
you say "but I can't hold it straight out in front", or "it's
only designed for left or right"...hear me out.
I designed my shield that way for a reason. A reason that
will be all too clear in the very near future. A reason that
I personally have been wanting for ages. And finally, a
reason of which I hope everyone else will want.
Let's just say - when the time comes, your troops will be
able to hold their shields correctly.

I like all kinds of shields, but the one I want the most isn't even manufactured by anyone.

I really love the round ones cause they can fit easily to any group you want but I love the drawing on the shields and the round one are not drawens (yeah yeah I controdicted myself in the same breath) ok basiclly what I love and hate the same round shields is the same thing.
So to make it much more easy I voted for the triangle shields.

Now thats funny, I don't recall seeing anything greek or mythological in lego....never mind Ovid.Dragon Master wrote:Ovid all the way. the best for heavy cavalry. The triangle is good for footmen and light cavalry.

The Chinese shields!
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=571519
Actually, historywise the Chinese used both round and rectangular shields (not so different than those used by Romans). I'd use those new KK2 shields, but oh god... the the colors they come in! I'd call them "Tower Shields" as they were called in Age of Empires.
Hopefully there will be a newer classic-style Castle theme in the future that uses all shield types.
Personally I'd want a new faction with a horsehead emblem and be based on the Byzantine Empire. Tan, black, and dk gray castles! Cataphracts with Oval shields. Heavy infantry men using Tower shields, light cav and infantry using Triangles.
