Join the weekly Classic Castle set review discussion. Please post your opinions on the set play ability, piece selection, design, etc. Which sets stand up to our catapult of critique and which ones crumble in shame!

This week’s set is 5994 Catapult.

Catapult was released in 2005 for Knight's Kingdom II. The set first came in a 2005 LEGO Easter basket in North America. Later it was available as a polybag and in the Knight's Kingdom Adventure Box produced by Scholastic Books, both available at Walmart.

This set is the first LEGO catapult to have a crank and 2x2 round brown wheels. It comes with stone shot and a horse head covering.

Despite the fact that the actual set doesn't look too good as it is, I will buy this set because I really like that crank piece, which figs would use for a large number of purposes, from draw bridges to much larger siege machines. I also like those wheels - although I prefer the original wheels over these, variety is the spice of life, so to speak, and it will be nice to have some carts in my town with a bit of a different look.

I will buy one or two copies of this set if I can (I didn't know what it looked like really until now), it seems to have a nice selection of pieces for a somewhat decent price.

This set I got because it was only $1.00 at my local Wal-Mart. Nothing special. Another horse helmet to paint over.

Expecting a quiet week around here, Ben? (Meaning that you wouldn't post this set if you were expecting a pile of numbers...)

Anyway, to the analysis. As a wheeled catapult, this is probably one of the better ones out, strange though that is to say of a KK2 set. The pieceage is just rare enough to compensate for the lack of desireability that comes from it being figless. The babyblue horse headstall is somewhat useless to anyone with a Chess set, however...

Parts: 8/10
Playability: 6.5/10
Figs/Accessories: 1/10
Design (then): 7.5/10
Design (now): 7.5/10
Nostalgia: 5/10

Overall Score: 5.92/10

Like others have said, the set doesn't look that great. But piece wise, it has a lot of good elements for example the horse helmet is nice and the crank.

Of course the set would be better if it weren't in the new brown and light gray. :(

This is the only KKII set I have opened, it came along with the Johnny Thunder 'Vladek' and Jayko chess pawn polybags as a Brickmaster surprise set.

As a catapult, it actually works fairly well. TLG has definitely produced better catapults with more distance control, but I got this thing to shoot about three feet. The crank is really extraneous, but it's a great piece, so I'm glad they included it. My wheels are rather loose, but they look nice. The horse helmet on the front looks kind of silly, but again, it's a great piece and I'm glad they included it.

As a stand-alone, obviously playability is nil. With something like Vladek's dark fortress or Attack from the Sea, though, it'd be a pretty good addition. I just used it for parts, though.

I have 4 of these, I just bought them for the crank pieces  . I don't really care for the wheels though, all I can think is "hockey puck".

6/10

Wooha! I have this set! (Wait, should I admit to that?)

Hey Hey, I've finally posted again. I actually bought this set, four of them  . I got them just for parts  . I really liked the crank piece, for drawbridges and whatnot, and the new wheels are kind of nifty, and good for small carts. Although I have no use for the horses helms (except for maybe a few red ones), and i'm not a big fan of the white baseplate, nor the tan stone shot; although the white baseplates could be useful. I dont mind the design, but it would be better I think in an older faction theme. I don't like the end of the catapult hitting the piece holding the horse helm, it'd be better with a shorter catapult arm, or a longer base. A nice addition, I think, to a KK2 collection; but as a set alone, without a minifig, isn't really anything for playability. I give it higher marks for pieces (hence 4 sets), but not for much of anything else.

Pretty decent for 99 cents, but I wish TLC would stop putting horse helmets on everything.

I bought 3 of them. I'd probably buy a couple more if I saw them again.

Parts only

As far as a set, this is perdy lame in my opinion. However for parts, it is decent. If I was a kid with 1.00 looking for legos, seeing this I would prbably consider it for a second, then decide to save my money for something better and bigger. The pieces in the set don't really give much playability, or chance to make other things. I did buy a few (five I think) for the wheels to change up some carts, etc. and the "cranks" for whatever; but I might try selling the horse helms on ebay or something, they are no use to me. Anyways, just about as appealing as all the other new sets which is not hardly at all (esp. considering the new color changes).

I like it. Its good for its few pieces such as the horse thingamajig. Like all the other catapaults, its small yet unique.

My opinion? 6/10

Realy bad set, Megablocks (almost) all KK2 sets, perhaps from the crank. I wish LEGO makes more like this catapults in the future:http://www.chem.sunysb.edu/msl/lego/castle/6043.jpg

3/10

Bought this for $1 at a convenience store. Pretty neat set. Could use a minifig.

Yay! First post!

I like this set. Yes, the design isn't the greatest but I love the fact that there are $1 sets out there. It has a decent selection of parts too. The wheels are unusual (at least so far), and the crank is cool too. I have bought 7 of them! :)
