One is enough. Out side of the original model there is very little else you can do. I don't need that many small boats. Had it come with a couple more figs, for that price...well then I'd get more.

In and of itself it is neat. Cool the way the jewels are hidden. A cool little boat for fishing. The whole Viking line is cool 8)

Four shields! Yahoo!

Too long in proportion to its width, it was nevertheless clever to stick two rowboats together and disguise them sufficiently to make make a small viking ship (though I like my solution of chopping the stern off both better). I'd rather have seen the wyvern deleted and the ship made properly complete with a sail.

i think that this set is a good way of expanding a force of vikings. it has good pieces, a boat and a few figs, the wyvern dragon on the other hand is very bad. the boat is useful, but could be a lot more useful if it had a sail, however it makes a good escort for the viking longboat.

Not much to add that hasn't already been said. The design is a bit lame but for 10.00 you get some good pieces. When I first saw a pic of this set I thought it came with a whole new boat. I ordered mine from a dealer outside of the U.S. because we didn't have them yet. I was a little upset when I opened this one and found 2 row boats! Still, I'd give it 8/10.

Two figs, and enough pieces to make four shields = very awesome. As with all Vikings, the figs are awesome- of course.

The idea of putting the two boats together to make a ship is one of the most innovative that an official set has come up with in recent years, and I have to commend TLC on not just making a new boat hull. Nonetheless, the model is just a tad unfinished, needing, among other things, a sail.

Still, not a bad model, all said and done.

Parts: 6/10
Playability: 7.5/10
Figs/Accessories: 8/10
Design (then): 7/10
Design (now): 7/10
Nostalgia: 7/10

Overall Score: 7.08/10

I think this is a great set. I had a bad day right after these came out and picked up this set (it looked very cool for only 10 USD) as a little pick-me-up. When I put it together I was not disappointed. As has been said, the 2 rowboat merger was very clever. The jewels hidden in the plates between the boats was kinda weird.

Overall I was so excited (especially by the figs) that I didn't mind the lack of sails. Still, it needs more oars or a sail. And the little "tack-ons" to the oars were kinda lame.

While I wasn't crazy about the wyvern, I thought it was clever to use such small pieces (like fishing poles) that could be useful for other things (as opposed to the relatively large and solid dinosaurs in the Dino Attack line).

I assume that recent lines like Vikings, Batman, and Dino Attack include a "bad guy" to bump up the playbility for kids that might only get a handful of sets. Hope LEGO starts making more money with this approach.

And Steve, I'm surprised that the stickers are tough for you. I find that applying round stickers to the discs are the easiest of all the LEGO stickers. I wipe down the disc prior to application, lift the sicker off the sheet while gently depressing the center so the middle "hole" stays on the sheet, and ease the inner circular edge of the sticker abutting the center protrusion of the disc; I lower the sticker until I'm sure that the "hole" will clear the protrusion, and then smooth it out. As long as one part of the inner edge of the sticker just touches the disc's center, the sticker lays out nice, even, and almost perfectly centered. I don't know, maybe that'll help. :)

Instead of jsut copying I'm going to say I pretty much agree with everyone concerning this set. It's not bad for $10 US and I like the piece for the dragon's head. I wish the dragon was more posable though, esp. the neck. I was just thinking a bit ago, how adding a baseplate like maybe the old small Pirate one (16x16) or something would have been neat, but probably would have raised the price. Overall, not a bad set at all.

Pros: 4 sheilds, 2 vikings for minimal price, boat is well built

Cons: Dragon- after the nindhog and fafnir this dragon is pathetic, i'd rather have a a sail.

I got this set last week. My first Viking set, and I'm happy with it. Finally have a pile of teeth. The figs are very cool and the weapons are not at all cheap feeling like I expected. The boat design is alright...although i'm hardly ever in need of two boat pieces.

I don't see the point in hiding treasure that can't be accessed with out taking the boat apart. I like the small dragon, I hadn't build one like this before so it was a bit of a lesson.

Mine came with extra teeth and a defective red 1x1 round brick..melted. I had lot's of them, so easy to replace.

All around good, if it wasn't for the bulky boats, i'd get more.

Cheers.

I completely agree with TwoTonic Knight. I love the Viking line but I don't like the beasts. They seem to me like something more suitable for LEGO Technik rather than the Castle or any ather fantasy/mythology related theme. The minifigs and the shields are OK but the boat needs to br redesigned.

A mixed bag.

I already have enough small boats (my Pirate phase), and I'm not that keen on getting any more. And as others have said, this ship seems lacking without a sail. The mini creature is rather pointless. Still, two minifigs, four shields and a variety of dcent bricks is nothing to scoff at. It certainly isn't the crown jewel of this line, but it's not terrible either.

6.5/10

<First Post>

I wrote a review of this a short time ago, easily the most negative of my Viking reviews (if you want to read something more upbeat, read my Viking Catapult versus the Nidhogg Dragon review instead!)

I'll just post links to this review, as it's a little long, so I don't clutter the board too much. If you'd rather, I'll copy/paste it here.
