I really like this set, because it has a fig, a barrel, and a cross bow for very little money. It's a great army builder.

I credit this set, along with 2539 and 2540 for my presence here. Back in 1998 I was filling up my car with gas at Shell and there were these 10 little promo sets for about $1.50 with a tank. These reminded me of the fun I had with LEGO when I was a kid and I figured, what the heck, and bought the little Technic bike. I threw it in my bag and continued on my way to work. That day at work I built the little bike and drove it around my desk for a while. It was so fun to have LEGO again that I went back and bought one of each of the remaining sets in the promo series (except the race car, because that one sold out). I thought it was very cool that the minifig faces had expressions now (my childhood was total classic smiley days), and I particularly liked the castle guys. I ended up buying several more of the crossbow flamer just so I could get a small troop of soldiers. Next time I visited my parents I dug out my old bricks, that were miraculously still there (i.e. my nephews hadn't found them) and about the same time I discovered that I could buy more LEGO on ebay (I didn't find Brickbay till later). I particularly focused on castle, and here I am today.

I was actually a big spacer as a kid and these promo sets were my first Castle sets, so if the one space set in that promo line hadn't been, well, dumb, I might be an admin on Classic-Space now.

Needless to say this one gets a score of 11 on a 10 point scale, purely for my personal history with it.

bruce, that's a really fun story. i share a similar relationship to the castle of morcia, so no matter how badly it's picked on here i always smile to myself when i see it.

1.50 with a tank of gas is a price i'd pay for this guy any day.

Wow. What a weird set. Why is this foolish knight carrying a crossbow while wheeling a potentially 100 pound cart (in scale) around with one hand?!? It looks like something you would drag behind a horse, set up, then burn whole hordes with a 20 foot long stream of fire.
Time to go nighty night mister west.

Well since we're bumping threads...

The fig is really nice, especially in regards to the torso, but the colour scheme that accompanies the set is horrible. Another crossbow, another barrel, and two more wheels. Nothing special, but good for the minifig accordingly. I think it depends really on your own personal feelings about this line.

There was a dragon master set along these lines, but the guy had a shield, sword, spear, and 2 crossbows...
I can't say I like this much.
