Castle 2007 Consolodation thread
Goodness gracious this is one of the best looking lines of the past years. I honestly think I might fall off the fence onto the castle side after I saw these compared to those ...eh...come on you can do it.......those ... new "space" sets  .
I hope this doesn't turn out like the Viking line where they scratched all the cool helmets and weapons !!!!

Thanks. I was going to suggest doing this.
I can't wait.
Maybe I'll be able to build a good looking army to go in a good looking castle after all

But that's half the fun. Peering and squinting at tiny low resolution pictures trying to divine what is in the sets. Its even more fun with prototypes... Besides, what's wrong with a little disappointment...I'm going to reserve my judgement until I have the actual sets in my hands. Getting worked up about prototype images can be hazardous to your health.

Still, I hope that there is at least one human shield in the basic army builder set.Slobey wrote:I have to say I'm very excited!! Has anyone else noticed that there is no shortage of sheilds either (unlike kkII) which I'm very happy about. I think I have more durmstrang sheilds than vladeks
I now have 7 (soon to be 8 ) dark red vladek's ovoid shields. I've been skimming them as soon as they pop up on Australian bricklink for the most part. Still, it's only enough to equip half of my cavalry. I've also been getting as many of the tower shields to equip my soldiers with.
I wish they'd release a shield service pack with shields for all of the major factions over the past few years (Shadow knights, the new yellow shadow knights, the new crown guys, the skeletons etc...)

I expect to see some changes for the final sets, but wouldn't be surprised if there's not. New elements: skeleton arms, skeleton horse, flail, scimitar., so there has been money put into new tooling, and you'd think that putting new printing on torsos would be cheaper and easier than tooling and producing new elements. But that does look like a printed, not stickered horse barding, and if they they're showing that, then it's likely that torsos shown will be what we get.
I do hope we get shield torso in the second wave, if not this one, and a great new helmet would be the visored great helm from the lego "Monty Python" video.

Horse barding and the old 'crusader' style visors. If they lose the pointed visor and switch to a KK2 style visor, I'll probably only buy one or two sets, instead of the whole line.kelderic wrote:As long as they don't change that horse barding, everything will be okey.Kev wrote:I expect to see some changes for the final sets, but wouldn't be surprised if there's not.

I guess my only disappointment thus far with the smaller sets is that the smallest one comes with two soldiers but no shields. This is a definite shortcoming when it comes to army-building (this is the first line where I may actually try to amass a real army). Hopefully this will change by the time the sets are finalized as I was hoping to pick up alot of these smaller sets.
Still, these are the best small sets since the good ol days, and all are definitely worth a purchase. The larger castle also seems to be a step above (despite its bley colour-scheme), and is certainly worthwhile for anybody trying to build up enough bricks to build a larger fortress or castle.
I'm still not sold on the other set though. It feels like a cross between Alpha Team and KK2. Too bad its the only set that features the maiden figure. I can only cringe when I think of the prices one might pay for her on bricklink. Still, 2007 is definitely a banner year. Only an epic change could kill this one.

Thanks Matt!
Okay, so I'm officially not excited about these sets anymore. Of course the prototypes look cool. The set designers are knocking themselves out making cool sets for us, but you know the LEGO execs are gonna slash everything cool to cut costs. Exactly like they did with the awesome Viking prototypes, which had three new types of viking helmets, different sets of horns, a new warhammer piece, classic swords, and three types of beards.
What new pieces can we see in these new Castle sets? The skeleton horse, the new skelly arms/torso, the flail, the curved sword, and new shields. I expect some of those pieces will not make the final cut. How many new pieces did the viking line get? A new helmet, a clip-on axehead, and the horns? I could be forgetting some. Also, I don't expect to see the classic pieces, like the swords or new visors. How much would it cost to find or restore those moulds?
Anyway, the actual Viking sets were nowhere near as cool as the prototypes, so I expect the same will happen with new Castle. If I'm wrong, I'll be overjoyed and regain some of my faith in this world.

Am I seeing a few new types of swords?
On the lower left hand side of the catalog pic, the skeleton in the foreground has a sword that is about the same size as the classic sword. But the white and black skeletons behind him have swords that are significantly bigger. Are those swords new, or are they the old scimiatars?
