Re: Set 1960
Hello!
I too would like to get further information on this set. And possibly the set itself :-)
Bye
Jojo
I heard of it in sense of "have seen it in the Lugnet database" but that's it :-(Webrain wrote:anyone heard of this set:

I do not remember this "pack" as a child. I do know that in 1990 my brothers and I got the 1675 value pack:
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/1675
Perhaps there is an error in the database. Didnt magic come into LEGO castle later? Maybe a ghost could be magical. I do remember being preoccupied with Pirate sets in 1990, go figure
If we three do not know of this set, maybe it doesnt exist!

I think it was just called 'magic' to spark imagination. Though a ghost was probably included. And Ben, you took away your chiding signature, cherish the moment!
Anyway, I searched it on http://www.brickset.com, it has the set listed, but w/ no pics or reviews. Argggg this is annoying.

Hi Jojo, Ben and Jon
Thanks for your replies
it seems that all 3:
Lugnet: http://guide.lugnet.com/set/1960
Brickset: http://www.brickset.com/search.aspx?Query=1960
and
Peeron: http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/1960-1
all claims that this set has been existed, though I believe 1 spread the rumor while the other copied. The question is who? and what made him think that pack where ever made (probably had a reason)
Anyway as for the magic, as Ben said it, castle was flooded with magic starting 1993 with Merlin/Majisto minifig. So basing on the ground that the Ghost minifig was introduced in 1990 (in sets 6081/6034), I tend to agree that the magic = ghost. As for the world pack I thought it rather means an expander pack such as http://guide.lugnet.com/set/3732 and not 2 or more sets combined together.
Thanks for your replies
Yeah Ben, I guess you probably right:)If we three do not know of this set, maybe it doesnt exist!

"As for the world pack I thought it rather means an expander pack". Perhaps, but in the same year they were selling this combination of three sets under the name "pack":
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/1675
which would suggest otherwise.
So, without making any claim as to what such a pack (if it existed) actually contained, what small sets from that year might have been combined to fit that name? I'd suggest that it might have contained:
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6034
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6018
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6042
The ghost set seems necessary to fit "magical" adventures. The other two are just two smaller sets from that year.

Now, those combined "packs" always contain sets that are not also in the catalogue as individual sets and that do not have a number from the number range of the respective theme, "60xx" for Castle. Even pure Castle combo packs don't have 60xx numbers, like the Castle Value Pack 1597. This said it's most unlikely that 1960 contains any regular sets.Bruce N H wrote:So, without making any claim as to what such a pack (if it existed) actually contained, what small sets from that year might have been combined to fit that name? Hmm, a mystery, huh? Who better to call on then the great James Therlow?
After an exhausting search through Google, I've found one or two sites that listed a "Dragon Masters Magical Adventure Pack." Now, how could it be Dragon Masters if it was released in 1990? I've come to the following conclusion (although of course I could be wrong ):
This set was a test by LEGO to discover whether or not the DM series would be a good seller.
How's that sound?

What the world needs now is Lego, sweet Lego.

Here is my latest theory:
I believe that this set "1960" is really a clerical error and is really the set 1906 Majisto's Tower, released in 1994.
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/1906
This would make sense for a hard to find set which may have been called Magical Adventure Pack.
Plus James search to shows that it is a Dragon Master's set. I think that 1992 Black Knights sets were being developed in 1990, not the later Dragon Masters series.
The only other possibility would be a rare dacta set that we are unaware of.

Haha (sorry, I had to laugh a bit)Is there any possibility of Lego customer service being at least able to tell you if it's a real set, even if further information is no longer available?
Customer service is always very nice and polite. That being said, they most likely would not know the answer to this. They are concerned with helping customers with current product and also getting missing pieces to older sets. (By an archaic method which should be improved - circling instruction booklets ) Usually I find that afols know as much, if not more, about old and new products, as customer service representatives.
One of my projects is to create a complete list of all castle sets from the online websites and catalogs. I hope to work with LEGO to confirm the accuracy of this set information. If you search through our sets archive or ones at other sites, you will notice many sets without original prices. Some sets are so rare that pictures are unavailable. Hopefully we can work with LEGO to give accurate information to the castle fans.

I second this theory. The box of 1906 says "Magic Castle Box". So assuming that "1960" was added to the database by mistake it's not unlikely that along with an inaccurately remembered set number also the name was only remembered inaccurately ("Something with magic..al and it's been a Castle set... box... pack..."). At least the name is in {curly brackets} which means it is not confirmed.architect wrote:I believe that this set "1960" is really a clerical error and is really the set 1906 Majisto's Tower, released in 1994. This would be a possibility. However, Dacta sets of that time had either 10xx or 9xxx numbers so "1960" would be very untypical. The only other possibility would be a rare dacta set that we are unaware of.

I guess it can be a mix up 1906 - 1060, and the fact that the magical set = DM then the year 1990 is probably wrong. The only thing that still bothers me is the word pack though. Maybe it's a pack of 1906 + ...?

cause if so this site belongs to Todd Lehman (Lugnet). I think it's about time we send a mail to Todd to ask him from where he got the information about this set.
